Lazenby was unfortunate to have stepped in when he did, and be the guy in the way of Connery that suddenly wanted to return to the roll. It's the only reason he was replaced. He was certainly better than that creepy pedo Roger Moore! :colbert:

It was my understanding that his wife passed away and he couldn't work, so they had to beg Connery to come back to the role. *shrug* I'm open to being wrong on this.

RIP Richard Kiel (1939-2014) would have been 75 this Saturday. 🙁

But it truly was! It was the only Bond film of that era with an actual plot

But, far more importantly, it was the only Bond film (until Casino Royale, actually), that treated Bond as a character, and not just a type.

It stands above the others because it actually escapes the standard Bond formula. I like a lot of the others, of course, especially the Connery flicks (except for those 2 embarrassments that were released after OHMSS), but they are just character types.

Goldfinger is great, and certainly quintessential, but OHMSS is a better film all around, and without completely sacrificing the weirdness of Bond. It also had the hottest Bond girl ever.

Well, at least until Eva Green.

interesting--I have actually never heard this. The only story I know and repeat is that Connery left because he feared being only known as Bond, was dissatisfied with his lack of paycheck, then demanded to return after the Lazenby flick. Of course, Connery would get preference from the Brocolli family.

I never considered this or bothered to confirm, but I suppose that story could possibly be nothing but lies and slander, clearly perpetuated at that time by the 3 disgruntled members of the George Lazenby fan club. :hmm:

this thread motivated me to read his wiki and what I wrote was all bullshit.

I'm still a Goldfinger, Dr No fan myself.

Liked Octopussy too, he he.

Paid my respects all ready, I loved the thing in Moonraker he did with the geeky looking girl when they were going to dump the over the genetics program thing when were going to dump them both I believe.

I've actually liked the last few Bonds, nice to see they've made them a lot more realistic than all the cartooney things they did with the for years.
