Java not working

Whenever I try to load anything that involves Java, I get a gray screen (where the applet should be) saying "Exception: java.lang.NullPointerException"

I just tried reinstalling IE, no go

what could this be?
 
If you are getting a NullPointerException you have a virtual machine. Try opening the Java console (unders Tools I think) and see if there is anymore information.
