I try to click on Express or Custom Install and nothing happens. This is the message on the lower left bar of ie: javascript:parent.fnScan(); . I am no techie but i think there should be something in the paranthesis.
I also get the same problem when i try to click on other things on different websites that would use java (suntrust account cheching, hotmail inbox, etc)
firefox can open the sites just fine.

also, installing things like google toolbar in ie wont work either (i think its related). The installation window opens but its blank, and nothing happens.

also if i want to restore to an earlier time the same story, i click the link but nothing happens.

i checked for viruses and asware and all my checlers say im clean.

i tried reinstalling java but still the same. i updated windows scripts, ran registry heal, still the same.

i also checked the windows registry with the command sfc /scannow from the win Xp cd.

help help help

thx

:D

Java and JavaScript aren't the same. Can't you post a screenshot/page source as I'm unable to replicate the error.

The bit of javascript posted does not need anything between the brackets. That just means that it's calling a function that takes no arguments. Do you have anything disabled security-wise that might prevent the updater from doing it's job?

i might have some security options enabled/disabled, i tried looking through them but i cannot find anything out of order, I put everything back to defaults too.

what happened i had this spyware software and i cant remember the name. it had an option to make some changes in the registry and i let it do that, but i do not know what it exactly did.

ive had this problem ever since. im pretty much using firefox now, and it does ok with everything, but iexplore.exe is dead in the water. i wish i could reinstall it somehow but i havent figured out how to do it even after i did some research on it.

I had exactly the same problem on Windows XP HE over the last two days and suspect a browser plugin installed by my new Canon printer.

Anyway, suggested solutions can be found at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/308260/EN-US/

The one that worked for me was updating the DirectX version (which I assumed was OK) and clearing down temp files etc.

I was thankful that this fixed it as I didn't fancy going as far as trying to re-install XP to repair it

Good luck
