Thanx thelamer, I have some friends in Houston that will be very happy to get their hands on one of these. Infact, I know some friends i used to work with @ CCity in Cali that took Japanese in HS/College so that they could read the text in import games(pack when modded ps1's/ps2's were used for imports, more than backups). As for Calamity, there is rules against trolling, but on top of that, I'm sure there is a large percentage of anandtech members that are capable of deciphering the imported games/menus/ui. :)

1% is pretty large. lol.

edit: ok, 1% is a way too generous of a estimate/guess. lol

* It'll play only NTSC/J and not-region-coded games (play-asia reports that the 4 Japanese games they could test so far are all region coded, but 7 of the US games are NOT region coded)

So it means it will work with US games so far..

* It's 110V (same as US, but 220V countries (Europe,...) will need a stepdown adapter with at least 250~300 Watts power output according to lik-sang)

No problem here!

* There's no exchange warranty service

Probably going to mod it anyway, so who cares?

I say go for it!!

No, you don't. But you will need to buy an A/V cable, as most US TV's don't have the digital connection that is popular on high def. TVs in japan

Uh, what are you talking about. It sold out quickly over there. Are you just throwing out misinformation without actually having read anything about the launch?

Unless things have changed I used to own several Nippon games when i lived in Korea and Japan and they all were about 5% Japanese and the rest of the game was english.

Yeah, because 3% is a ginormous number of defective xboxes. I'm sure there are plenty of legit reasons other than "I gotta have one, and I don't care where it comes from" that result in people living in America buying a Japanese console. Some folks travel back and forth between the two countries. If you really want one of these Japanese versions and are concerned about warranties, just call 1-800-4MY-XBOX and ask someone on the phone.

Voltage in Japan is 100V. Hong Kong uses 220V, so they often confuse between 110V and 100V. Most likely, it will be fine for a while; in the run long, not good. When Japan exports electronics to other Asain countries, adaptors are shipped accordingly. I'd guess those were made for export. If not, you need to buy an adaptor; Radio Shack should have it???

Edit,
Just found a chart. Bookmark it, it can be handy later.

has anyone in the US bought from Lik Sang?

Aren't there taxes and other complications to importing?

I've considered this company for other products... so would like to know, even if the xbox sells out
Thanks

I just bought an XBOX 360 from Lik Sang and I live in the US. They ripp you off in shipping, $67. They did not charge any tax though. It is funny that if I buy a Sony Playstation 2 from them the shipping is only about $33. In the end $506 isn't that bad. With tax in the US, it is about $432.

What is the name of that digital connection? I looked at the cable in the pics, kinda looks like HDMI, but I suppose its not.
