?Generally, they have a serious emotional problem, which is that they have difficulty dealing with others face-to-face, a kind of phobia or fear of talking about their feelings in front of others,? says Yukio Saito, a Methodist minister who founded the country?s first suicide-prevention hotline. ?Maybe this is quite a Japanese-type emotion. They have difficulty having personal relationships, so they tend to use the Internet to communicate their feelings.?

There have been lots of stories on lovers committing suicide written in the past...and on suicide in general.
tfr?It was (and perhaps still is) seen as an honorable way to go. Now the problem seems to stem from the rather conservative nature of the Japanese and their inability to speak openly about their problems as well as external pressures. (I would imagine a lot of guys going nuts in America if all of a sudden girls just decided that they wouldn't want to marry or have children (and hence, the low TFR in Japan).)
