Right. Let's change historical art in order to mold it based on today's sensitivities. /facepalm

I'm sure you agreed with whacko-fundi John Ashcroft covering up nude statues in Washington? After all, breasts offend some people.

OP, I grew up in a world where Jap was commonly used with no particular insult or derogation meant. Much, much later, I learned that Japanese-Americans took exception to it as being offensive, so I learned to stop using it, because I'm a civilized adult and I know that there is no reason in the world to needlessly offend others.

I just didn't need to stamp my little feet and bleat about my FWEEDOM.

You could take the high road, be an adult, and do the same, you know.

Pot.. Kettle.. Black..

What was that about being an adult who doesn't needlessly insult others again?

Nevermind the fact that the OP wasn't USING the term himself, but was talking about it being censored from movies using it in historical context.

Then you don't know your history of the Japanese people. They were and remain, one, if not the, most racist people on the face of the earth.

Two wrongs don't make a right.

Plus, it's not like America was some innocent shining beacon of equality when it came to the Japanese. Racism against the Japanese was prevelent in this country throughout the first half
of the 20th century and played an enormous role in our pursuit and execution of the Pacific half of WW2.

How exactly is a 50 year old film using the term 'Jap' in its historical context racist? Should we prevent movies from using the the N-word when discussing the race issues of the 60's as well? Just stick our heads in the sand and pretend it never happened?

That is true but to deny that the Japanese people were not just as much racists is to deny history.

I think it funny that we as a people are now so sensitive that we must be protected from ourselves and our history.

Censorship is wrong.

...'nuff said.

Seems like he's not the only one keeping notes.

I wonder if they'd be as offended if they replaced Jap with Nip. Are German Americans offended by the words Kraut, Jerry or Hun?

...or blacks being labelled as 'Bobo' as in Bobo the chimp?

On private networks it's their call to avoid offending their market. By all means it is within a channel's and internet forum's right to bleep out offensive words.

Bobo, as I am want to use at every occasion has nothing to do with race. It has everything to do with the stated definition....."The Anointed One".

But nice try at a deflection.

p.s., It's Bobo the Clown and Bonzo the Chip.

More common to be Bozo the clown, Bozo.... Bobo as an ape is common, and quite telling in that you will not recognise that fact.

Pure nonsense. Bobo for Barack Obama because Bobo is commonly viewed to be black and it's demeaning -- common bigotry among segments of the US population -- to depict the man to a chimp/gorilla.
