At this point its hard to argue its not on purpose. Fucking awful tackling technique, and if he's not doing anything to improve that now, then it absolutely is intentional. Tackling like that, the only way you're going to get a player down is if you KthemTFO.

Funny thing is, the Steelers seem to take concussions seriously when its their own players (Big Ben in 2009 against the Chiefs, fell and hit his head against a defensive players knee; Polamalu in the Chiefs game a couple of weeks back), they just don't GAF about others.

The NFL is going to need to start staffing medical professionals at games that can check out players away from the team for serious stuff like concussions.

During the Chiefs-Patriots game, Gronkowski landed on his kneck/head flipping over into the end zone, and he was clearly having issues when he stood up (disoriented, stumbling). He played the rest of the game.

This, very much. I have no idea why people continue to call this "Real football" when all it does is lead to piss-poor tackling and well, shitty football.

The guy is a thug, he only wants to hit and injure. He seems to have little interest in actually making plays. he just wants to hurt people. His continued refusal to adapt his game to actually play football is concerning.

Needs more suspension, without pay, on top of fines.

There is a lot of haters in this thread. You see the Steelers #1 thing they preach is to be the toughest SOB on the field. When we come to your team we will dominate you in the trenches that how we roll. We will put an ass whippen on your team and people can't handle that. People calling for lifetime bans and all the other garbage are just a bunch of haters.

What is going to happen when quarterbacks start running the ball like Tebow and he gets hit in the head? Should they be suspended too? Look at the massive hits that Mendenhall took to the head on the goal line stance. Were the fouls for that? Either hits to the head are illegal or they are not.

Lol.

That depends on the position he's in when he takes the hit. Mendenhall is different, as he is a ball carrier. No, there weren't fouls because it was a legal hit. And no, hits to the head are not "illegal or they are not".

Agreed. He had become a ball carrier at that point.

Helmet-to-helmet rules generally only apply to "defenseless receivers."
(although it seems like the NFL is trying to change that too)

From the NFL Rule Book:

http://static.nfl.com/static/content/public/image/rulebook/pdfs/15_Rule12_Player_Conduct.pdf

I'm not sure what exactly you are trying to argue here. This rule that you quoted specifically shows what Harrison did was illegal.

PASSER OUT OF THE POCKET
(8) When the passer goes outside the pocket area and either continues moving with the ball (without attempting to advance the ball as a runner) or throws while on the run, he loses the protection of the one-step rule provided for in (1) above, and the protection against a low hit provided for in (5) above, but he remains covered by all the other special protections afforded to a passer in the pocket (numbers 2, 3, 4, 6, and 7), as well as the regular unnecessary-roughness rules applicable to all player positions. If the passer stops behind the line and clearly establishes a passing posture, he will then be
covered by all of the special protections for passers.

The only real comment I have about a "ball carrier" vs. a WR or a QB is how they actually run with the ball and their actual sizes.

RB's are typically much shorter and shrink down making them very hard to square up to. You do not see very many RB's that are taller than 6'. And the ones that are are usually criticized for being "upgright" runners.

A WR or QB run much more upright and are usually quite a bit taller leaving for more body to connect with. A WR or QB won't usually lower their shoulder and trying to punish a defender. It's just not how that position is typically played or the players are built for.

It's much harder to avoid head to head contact on a guy like Ray Rice or Maurice Jones Drew than it is a guy like Calvin Johnson or Jimmy Graham.

Harrison hit him as he approached the line of scrimmage, acting like a runner...who saw the approaching doom...and got rid of the ball.

That is not the proper way to tackle! Putting your facemask in between the numbers is a great way to promote a neck injury and result in penalties such as this. The non jackass way to do it is to lower the head off to under the shoulder.

Btw I would love to watch big tough steelers come up to Wisco and show GB how to get things done. Im sure Clay could demonstrate to Big Ben the proper technique.

This is the part where you put "Haters gonna hate" right? :p

The NFL culture can pretend all it wants to give a crap, but until they stop glorifying this type of play it's going to continue. Simple as that.

Bring it GB has not played a good D yet. LOL at the 31 rank defense.

Go look at who GB has played this year. Most of the teams they play have the worst D in the league. GB has the 31 rank D. The Steelers have played half their games against top 10 defenses such as (RavensX2 ranked 3) (Cincinnati Bengals X2 ranked 7) (Cleveland Browns X2 ranked 9) (Houston Texans 1 ranked 1) that just some of the teams Pittsburgh has played. GB is overrated. It must be nice to play the bottom ranked teams like that.

Only if you're an idiot and look at only YPG to rank the D. And Cleveland isn't in the top 20 in defense if you actually watch games.

These teams played last year, and it didn't work out too well for the Steelers.
