Damn, too young.

What's this about dying on the shitter? All the great ones die trying to take a shit.

Is that true, he pulled an Elvis? I saw he was in the bathroom but they didn't mention him dying on the throne.

I'm starting to look at the comode as the grim reaper for fat people with a history of drug abuse. Someone I know lost an older brother not long ago and he fit the same bulging mold (no toilet involved though, far as I know)

51 is way too young though, agreed. His poor kids and wife. ;(

Italian diet is killing all these Italian gangster actors.

Many on the Godfather films have died from heart attacks. Just a small list:

  • Richard Castellano (Clemenza) Died of a heart attack at age 55.
  • Richard Conte (Barzini) Died of a heart attack at age 65.
  • Al Lettieri (Sollozzo) Died of a heart attack at age 47.
  • Lenny Montana (Luca Brasi) Died of a heart attack at age 66.
  • Joe Spinell (Willi Cicci) dies of a heart attack at age 52.

any evidence that this is a diet issue? Infarcts can be triggered in all sorts of ways--I wonder how many of these actors were into the cocaine, especially considering a lot of this would have been the 80s/90s, no?

Also, reports this morning from some of those that knew and worked with Gandolfini did mention that he struggled with drugs for many years...appearing to suggest that this might be the primary factor.

Last picture right before he died 🙁

I rewatched the first expisode of the Sopranos and he wasn't nearly as heavy as he got later in the show. He was whale big there towards the end.

People don't realize how viciously cocaine attacks the heart, look at Billy Mays, Lenny Bias (and he was a stud 21yr old) I wouldn't F with coke even if was free..

RIP to one of the greatest actors of all time. 🙁

I wonder if it was his poor diet that contributed to it.

The NY Post is reporting that his last meal was a double order of fried king prawns, a large portion of foie gras, four shots of rum, and a few other drinks. So no, I don't think his diet was a factor.

I noticed this as well. I had a picture of him as a fat guy from his later roles, but for most of his career he wasn't really overweight. I'd just have to assume he had a really unhealthy lifestyle for the past 10 years

Yeah, for the first couple of seasons I estimate he probably weighed between 210-230. During the last season I remember there was a scene where he jumped on the scale and it was pushing like 280+.

From that pic posted above, it looks like he hadn't shed any and looked even heavier.

His acting wasn't all that great until the Sopranos but in that show he was perfect for the role.

נוח על משכבך בשלום

A lot of it is luck. As your coronary arteries become blocked it is usually a small bit of plaque that breaks off and gets lodged in the narrowest spot that triggers a heart attack. Depending on how much it blocks the artery and where the artery is can be the difference between life and death.

WTF, Pina Colada's and shots of rum?

Who drinks that with dinner?

'If you like Pina Coladas and getting caught in the rain
If you're not into yoga, if you have half a brain
If you like making love at midnight in the dunes on the cape
Then I'm the love that you've looked for write to me and escape'

Thanks Rupert :\

Thanks Rupert :\

"Yes, I like Pina Coladas and getting caught in the rain
I'm not much into health food, I am into champagne
I've got to meet you by tomorrow noon and cut through all this red tape
At a bar called O'Malleys where we'll plan our escape"

At least he went out well fed and juiced up....

Of course it would have been preferable to go out doing a line off a hookers ass... but to each his own.

A guy at my hotel in Dominican Republic dropped drop dead of a heart attack at the dinner buffet area in front of a dozen tourists, including myself last summer. He was 'skinny fat'. i.e. skinny legs and arms, but a big belly. Felt bad for his Wife. Was their wedding anniversary.

My Mom and Dad went to Brittany with several other couples from the U.S. and Europe, and on the second night one of the husbands was found dead in his bed. That'll put a chill on the old vacation.

im gonna be the minority here, i thought others in the sopranos were equally great if not better in there roles. Paulie, Richie, Christopher...all played great roles..it does help when your the main character and have the headlights shined on you. Have read reports of the drugs and weight issues as well..def played a role in that.
