Wasn't he an unofficial member of Run DMC?? Yet another sign that anything positive that was ever connected with rap music is crumbling and decaying (this is a hell of a lot worse than that Sugar Hill studio burning down...)

He's a crew member of Run DMC. Old school hip-hop group.
Hey I know who Run DMC is, I'm not that out of it :p;) I knew the name, couldn't place it to a group though...

either way - sucks - I hope this isn't true :( I'm sure MTV would have news of it if it's a true story...

What the hell?! He should've taken pictures, those could be worth tons in a while (yes, sad and wrong but it's true). I hope Jam Master Jay is alright...maybe he'll be able to pull a 2Pac and come out alive this time.

um...I don't think Run DMC ever did a song that could possibly be construed as violent, etc. Way to make a wild generalization.

Wrong.

No he did not deserve it. You don't know his name because he didn't rap. He was more of a DJ. He also worked with the Beastie Boys on a few tracks from Paul's Boutique. Yeah, he's REAL 'gangsta'

Oh I have...........

How can one NOT hear Rap these days?

Bad enough that it's found it's way into everything. (TV, movies, etc.) But you can't drive down the street WITH YOUR WINDOWS ROLLED UP and NOT hear it.

I understand the roots of rap music. But I think it is bad, over all, for society.

And it really bugs me seeing white middle class kids trying to emulate a culture that they have nothing in common with. And thinking that whole GANGSTA life style is COOL, is just plane CRAZY!!!

THIS is what happens to GANGSTA'S!

I concide to your point. I don't know what he was "into". But I'll stand by my "lifestyle" generalization.

How can one NOT hear Country these days?

Bad enough that it's found it's way into everything. (TV, movies, etc.) But you can't drive down the street WITH YOUR WINDOWS ROLLED UP and NOT hear it blasting out the windows of a pickup truck with a confederate flag in the rear window.

I understand the roots of country music. But I think it is bad, over all, for society.

And it really bugs me seeing black middle class kids trying to emulate a culture that they have nothing in common with. And thinking that whole good 'ol boy lifestyle, is just plane CRAZY!!!

THIS is what happens to rednecks!

Before you flame me, this was meant as a humorous take on the rubbish a few posts up

OMFG, are you guys nuts or just racists?!?!?!??!?

Run-DMC is one of the great rap groups in history because they were the first to combine old-school rap with ROCK MUSIC. Ever hear their cover of "Walk This Way" with Aerosmith? They SAVED Aerosmith's career!!! Kid Rock's music is totally descended from Run-DMC, something you saluted on the VMAs a few years back when he, Joe and Steve from Aerosmith and Run-DMC combined for a medley of "Rock Box", "Bawitaba" and "Walk This Way". It was awesome.

Jam Master Jay was their DJ and a turntable scratching pioneer. So much of today's rock-rap music like Limp Bizkit and Incubus and Linkin Park is directly descended from their music, to say that you don't know them or care is like saying you don't know your own parents and grandparents.

This is a tragic thing, but the level of apathy and ignorance displayed here is even more tragic!:|

BTW: Their raps were uplifting and clever. They were NOT "gangsta", "thugs" or anything of the sort, you morons! LEARN SOMETHING!!!!!

Sorry, I guess I'm turning into my Dad.

When I was a kid, it was "THAT DAMN ROCK AND ROLL!!"

Now that I'm almost 50, I seem to be reacting the same way.

But at least my generation never glorified violence like MOST rap seems to do. (But maybe I'm missing some deeper inner meaning?)
We were trying to END violence! Stopping the war in Vietnam, peace, love, and all that sh!t....

I agree! ;)

I don't like country for a lot of the same reasons.
The good'ol boy mentality is a lot of times as violent or more so than the Gansta rapper mentality.
I'm against any music or lifestyle or mind set that leads to violent behavior.
