We desperately need to get rid of the insurance system in the US. They all have FAR too much power and it should never be allowed to make it mandatory.
Yeah, 'cuz that's the problem here

Well, if there weren't the requirement for insurance, he wouldn't have been arrested. End problem.

Unable to provide proof of insurance for the pickup and carrying a history of convictions for moving violations, Moyle was jailed.
He was most likely jailed for outstanding traffic warrants and/or driving while suspended, and not for the lack of insurance. Usually they just cite and tow your car for that, at worst, not jail.

I didn't read it that way. A history of convictions is irrelevant, unless he is breaking some condition put on him. I guess I'd need clarification on that issue.

When have you ever heard of a single case in which a driver has been jailed solely for failure to carry proof of insurance? Google away if you must.

Regardless, how this person got into jail is irrelevant. What is relevant is that the police failed to perform their civic duty to protect his safety once he was in their custody.

Probably mouthed off the other inmate and got a whoopin'.

Ding ding ding.

...after mouthing off to the cop. Unless he had warrants on him... I never heard of someone being sent to the slammer for having no proof of insurance.

Does no one read anymore?

I stand by my statement. These were convictions, not failures to appear. A cop would have better things to do than arrest someone for no proof of insurance... unless the guy was being beligerent.
