Jailbreaking for hardware issues

Hello,
I have an 8 gig 2nd gen iPod touch running 4.2.1. It has a hardware issue that the home button does not work. I tried all the fixes out there short of replacing the mobo. I heard that a jailbroken iPod can have it's buttons remapped so I could have the volume buttons act as home buttons. I have not jailbroken anything yet.

I was wondering what you can use to jailbreak (I found some that require holding the home button during boot which I cannot do). I'd like to keep it as close to original iOS as possible. What program/other software I can use to remap the buttons? tips/tricks/advice?

Anything else useful please feel free to comment.

Thanks in advance,
Micah

I think you have to start from iTunes to turn on Accessibility, but from there...

Settings > General > Accessibility > AssistiveTouch > ON

A white dot will appear on your screen, it will always be there, it can be moved around if it is in your way. It will allow you to access shortcuts and buttons that may ordinarily be difficult to press. I used it on my iPhone 4 when the lock button mysteriously stopped broke.
