Jailbreak iPhone 3G?

I just got a 3G from my brother and I want to jailbreak it so I can use it at work and tether it. I have a 3GS but I don't want to mess around with it. I'll just keep the 3G at work and swap the sim card.

Whats the best way of jailbreaking it? Best app to tether it? I still have the unlimited data plan so I'd like to finally get my money's worth out of it.

Thanks!!

If you don't need an unlock, just use Limera1n.

I use "TetherMe" to tether.. It's 1.99 in Cydia and just basically unlocks the regular USB/Bluetooth tethering options.

RedSn0w... no need for Limera1n. 3G is Pwned4life. Also, it's possible to tether without buying anything, but it takes a bit of work. To top it off, your provider can easily see that you've enabled unofficial tethering unless you use a VPN.

So, how do I get RedSn0w? I don't mind paying for an app but what are the consequences if AT&T realizes that I enabled unofficial tethering?

google iphone dev team blog they should have a page on their app. also keep an eye on musclenerd and comex on twitter - good nfo to follow.

I hear that is goes like this: First, they send you a nasty letter threatening to disconnect if you do not stop, then, itf you do not stop, they cancel your contract. Soulds like a good way out of the contract if you are ready to leave AT&T. 🙂

You can probably fly under their radar just by keeping usage low. There's a 5GB cap on unlimited plans which triggers a nasty letter too and that's probably what it takes to get them to look closer.
