Both these teams were expansions in the 90s. Which one has been more successful? I know panthers went to a superbowl, but do the jaguars have had more playoff games?

Tough call ... obviously this season the Jags are the better team & despite the Panthers SB appearence Jacksonville actually holds the all-time highest playoff winning percentage at .667 (this sure surprised me!) plus they have a better all-time regular season win/loss record so I'd say thay have been more successful by a little bit.

Based on limited personal experience, I believe that the panthers have more franchise loyalty and are surely better off financially. Does anyone have hard numbers on the finances?

The Panthers have both Carolinas supporting it while Jacksonville has a tiny slice of Florida supporting it :p

Whats the question here ... how strong the fan-base is or which team has been more successful on the field?

The Panthers enjoy a good local following, but don't ever fool yourself into thinking they are valued above teh NASCAR. That is the number one sport in both Carolinas, and significantly draws away $ from the Panthers. I still would venture to guess the Panthers enjoy a better following and revenue stream.

Fla NFL fans had other Fla teams to choose from until the Jags hit the scene, those in Carolina did not. You will find a bunch of Skins/Pitt/Falcons/Dallas/etc fans in Carolina, although many did switch their loyalty once they had a local option.

Maybe if they played in the same conference. But over the last decade I think the AFC has been a much harder one to play in.

What a great SB as well, they should have won. Stupid kicker shanked the kickoff out of bounds giving NE great field position.
