Staley, I think u got it all wrong bud. Martini's are ordered by people with class (stereotypically), who are educated enough to separate themselves from the insecure people who worry about if the drink they're drinking is "manly enough". Realistically, they are ordered by people who love to drink, love the image it represents, who love the taste of it, and who love getting f'd up quick. Guaranteed the majority could drink your "manly" average beer drinker "under the table". And drinking someone "under the table" is a "manly" thing to do, isn't it? Lol...

Unfortunately you're right about who orders this drink in the Raleigh/Durham/Chapel Hill area. I'm the trend-buster at the West End Wine Bar who orders Yoo-hoo in a wine glass (yes, they have it there) while all the poseurs are imitating the wine snobbery actions they see in the movies (ordering, swilling, tasting, etc.) Most of them dress in black and have goatees (its kinda creepy when the women wear them too); no sweater vests for this crowd, though.

When I went to school in Kentucky (yes, they have schools there), I was considered the hard alcoholic because I drank martinis and had a wiener dog. Seriously, there are some folks who believe only alcoholics have those dogs as pets.



heh. the going out to shoot something was the only thing I was serious about. My friends picked up some new handguns they bought "outside" of one of the tradeshows.

Ok I would agree that typically people who order martinis consider themselves to have class. And I would agree that they are educated people. However, In my opinion the people who order martinis are the insecure ones, not the other drinkers. They order them b/c they want to separate themselves from the average beer drinker and they want to seem like they are the upper class people and that they are better than everyone else b/c they order a martini instead of a beer. They like to stand around and look down on the regular people b/c they are drinking out of a cool looking glass with an olive or an onion in it and they can order like Bond, or the CEO of their company. People can drink whatever the heck the want (obviously) I just wanted to point out what I normally see in a martini drinker (aka yuppie trying to fit in with the upper class b/c they themselves are insecure) that is all. And of course there are exceptions to the rules in all cases but they are in fact exceptions not the norm.

yeah, bomb drinks are getting really popular on campus...jaegerbombs at Brown Jug, Irish Car Bomb downtown...regular vodka+RB is always good too. I'm still getting over the partying that took place too nights ago...I got bored of pouring shots for people, so I just started drinking the vodka straight from the bottle. Plus I had two cans of RB.
