Jade Empire worth playing?

I loved Knights of the Old Republic, and this was recommended to me. I'll be playing it on the 360. How does it compare to KOTR?

I have not played it, but I believe that this game was made after Bioware was boughtout. So, how good it is might be an indication of future Bioware titles.

Played it and I thought it was one of the best RPGs I've ever played. I felt KOTOR was boring though so your opinion may vary.

Did you think it was boring because of the dialog and too much story?

So Bioware has really sold out in the buyout and now caters to hack and slash plotless mayhem🙁

I sincerely hope not. The depth of story and dialog were the 2 primary reasons I loved Bioware games.

Hell yes it's worth playing.

There's a good amount of characters to choose from, although in actuality they don't differ a great deal except for the skills they start out with, though the characters are suited to a different style of battle. Speaking of the skills, the ones I've had experience with were pretty cool and you have to use a variety of them to do well in the game. Enemy A may be able to be beaten by skill x but then you'll come to enemy B who is immune to skill x and skill y so you'll have to find a different way to dispatch him. The combat is pretty well done, no complains there. There's two directions you can go in for combat, an "evil" and a "good" path. Depending on your actions in-game, you'll gravitate toward one or the other, each with different skills/fighting styles.

You end up meeting other characters and they join your party. The interaction between characters in the game is based on a series of different phrases you can say when you talk to someone. Typically there's always a phrase that is aggressive, one that is friendly, etc. So the storyline progresses based upon how you interact with other characters and what choices you make.

The graphics are very good; the levels look gorgeous. I can't comment on the sound effects as I don't recall them being great or terrible... so I wouldn't say there's anything to complain about really as far as sound.

All in all it's a great game. It has a decent length (actually I never beat it but then again I didn't play it non-stop), and even if you beat it you can play again as a different character and choose a different path (via how you interact with people and the decisions you make) and the game will turn out differently, as I hear.

Recommended game, I give it 9/10.

ditto 🙁 an RPG without a solid plot is not an RPG

Well, the people that bought Bioware seem to want to apply better business sense to them. Story driven RPGs that require thought do not sell as well as hack and slash games that do not require thought (Diablo II anyone?). Make RPGs hack and slash and put it mainly on consoles to get a larger audience. Perfect business sense and another great company bites the dust and becomes just like all the rest🙁

RiP Bioware, you were one of the favorites🙁

Any game made by BioWare is worth playing. I hope to say the same about Obsidian Entertainment once Neverwinter Nights 2 comes out.

Anyone able to compare this game to Baldur's Gate or KotoR? (In terms of story and character development).

From what I've heard it's even lighter fare than KotoR, considerably so. Some people compare it to Fable.

I'm about a quarter of the way through the game so far, I've really enjoyed it. The combat's a little too easy though.

Try fighting the boss at the fight arena. ******, that guy is hard. Took me a long time and a painful hand to beat him.

Excellent game, but kind of easy and way too short. I played it being good the first time, I'm going to be as evil as I can the next time I get around to playing it.

Never played Fable, so I take it that it is a hack and slash diablo clone with no story then?

If it is like Fable, it'll probably have a decent story and characters, just really weak RPG elements when it comes to stats and character development. More like an adventure game with some twitch combat thrown in.

No it is not a hack and slash diablo clone. But I do have a "Jump to Conclusions" mat for sale.

I beat the game. It was a lot of fun playing the evil side 😛 It took me a shade under 10 hours to complete, so it was pretty short. Hopefully the 2nd one will be longer.
