Where in that article does it say that Shaq demanded a trade? Edit your title, it is wrong.

It says that Kupchak left the door open for Shaq to be traded IF HE DEMANDED A TRADE.
He hasn't, yet.
Read on down through the article.
ESPN.com's Marc Stein has learned that the Lakers' big man, who can opt out of his contract after next season, has demanded a trade.

So if Kobe opted out of his contract, what does this mean exactly? He can re-sign with the Lakers for big bucks or is he pretty much fscked from re-signing with the Lakers?

I think that he still has some time left on his contract, but has a stipulation that he can opt out, free of charge so to say, at a certain period. With his market value through the roof, he'd be stupid not to opt out. He can still resign with the Lakers, albeit for a lot higher pay check.

EDIT: Forgot to add that I could be completely wrong on this, so someone correct me if I am.

He can sign with the Lakers again if they want to sign him.....which they do. There is no way in hell that he'd opt-out and the Lakers wouldn't take him back.

What did I say in the other thread? I told you Kupchack was trying to prepare fans of what could happen.

LA WILL keep Kobe, he opted out of his contract, but the Lakers are willing to pay more than any team. LA is already offering Kobe over $140million for 7 years.

It means he can sign with anyone. Including the Lakers. The Lakers can, and will, offer him max out money, though. It's up to him if he wants to take it.

Nuggets need to offer whatever they can to get Shaq, with the exception of Melo, of course.

He will, since now he will have all the spotlight to himself with Jackson and Shaq gone.

Shaq for McGrady!

Kobe and McGrady would be insane. Probably wont be enough touches to go around but you know what, I'd still love to see it. =)

Kobe currently makes $13 million a year, so just about anything any team will offer will be higher than what he's getting now. I honestly don't think Kobe will go back to LA, as he's accomplished all he could there. He's still young (27?), and I think he'd rather head to another team and help them out. I can't say money will entice him to stay.

How soon does Kobe need to sign with someone? IS there a time limit? If so, what is it?

Hes not a free agent until July 1. He can sign whenever he wants to.

NO WAY! Kobe and T-Mac come to the Knicks - pleeeeezzz!! 😀

I don't dislike any of the Lakers.

I wouldn't turn my back on O'Neal or Kobe if you can beat the "I" out of them and beat the "we" into them, but that might be a tough nut to crack.

as Kobe was with the Lakers, they can offer Kobe more than any other team can, so if Money is kobe's primary concern, than Kobe will sign with the lakers.

Do the Knicks really need anymore shooting guards and small forwards? I think they have enough of that already.

If Kobe goes to the Nuggets, he can drive to his hearing and back. 😛

I'm glad Shaq is demanding a trade. He was the one who said he would never ask for money ever again when he got his last extension. What does he do this year? Demand an extension from Jerry Buss for roughly $30mil a year. What a jackass! Good f'ing riddence!!!

Money won't entice him, but the new power he'll have will. Buss has basically made it clear that Kobe's his baby and whatever Kobe wants he gets. He will have gotten Phil clipped (and will undoubtedly get a say in the next coach), Shaq will go apesh!t and demand to be traded, and he'll get max out money. Plus he'll get to stay in LA. Find me a better situation for him than that. There isn't one. If things were to stay the same in LA he'd most likely leave but the team won't even be recognizable a few months from now.
