HONG KONG (AP) -- It's the movie that put Jackie Chan in the major league in the U.S., but the Hong Kong star isn't a fan of his successful action comedy franchise "Rush Hour."

Chan said when he made the first installment of the "Rush Hour" series in 1998 he only wanted to test the U.S. market and didn't have high hopes.

"When we finished filming, I felt very disappointed because it was a movie I didn't appreciate and I did not like the action scenes involved. I felt the style of action was too Americanized and I didn't understand the American humor," Chan said in a blog entry on his Web site seen Sunday.

The actor said he made the sequel because he was offered an "irresistible" amount of money to do it and made the third installment, which was released recently, to satisfy fans of the series.

Chan said "Rush Hour 3" was no different from the first two installments for him.

"Nothing particularly exciting stood out that made this movie special for me ... I spent four months making this film and I still don't fully understand the humor," he said, adding the comedic scenes may be lost on Asian audiences as well.

Chan's comments came even though the "Rush Hour" series, which revolves around the racial humor stemming from the pairing of a Chinese (Chan) and a black (Chris Tucker) police officer, helped the action star cross over to mainstream American audiences.

"Rush Hour" was Chan's first movie to break US$100 million at the U.S. box office, earning US$141 million, according to the box office tracking Web site Box Office Mojo. "Rush Hour 2" made US$226 million and "Rush Hour 3" has earned US$137 million so far.

Chan has been known to be blase about his Hollywood work. He said in a 2005 interview with The Associated Press that he uses the high salary he earns in the U.S. to fund Chinese-language projects that he's truly interested in.

He also recently showed little enthusiasm for his latest Hollywood project, "The Forbidden Kingdom," which marks his first on-screen collaboration with fellow action star Jet Li.

"The movie I just shot with Jet Li, 'The Forbidden Kingdom,' actually isn't that great," Chan was quoted as saying by the Web site of China's official Xinhua News Agency.

"'The Forbidden Kingdom' is a movie made for Americans," the report quoted Chan as saying. "Chinese viewers may not like it. If I say it's a good movie now, then many people will be filled with overly high expectations and be disappointed when they see the movie."

I wonder how he feels about the Jackie Chan Adventures cartoon.

He's Chinese and the other guy's a black American. There's lots of zany culture clashing going on. Laugh!

Yeah, I didn't either.

Jackie Chan and Jet Li in the same film?????

The plot is currently unconfirmed but rumor has it that The Forbidden Kingdom is about a New York teenager who is obsessed with Hong Kong cinema and classic Kung Fu movies. Jason (Michael Angarano), is a boy who is always bullied at school. He is determined to learn kung fu to protect himself. One day in a Chinatown pawnshop, Jason makes an extraordinary discovery - a Chinese staff. It is the legendary Ru Yi Bang staff of the Chinese sage and warrior, Sun Wukong the Monkey King.

A mysterious power in the staff transports Jason back to ancient China. There he meets kung fu master Lu Yan (Jackie Chan). He is unkempt and looks like a beggar. Jason becomes his disciple. Later, he meets another kung fu master Golden Sparrow (Liu Yifei) and the Silent Monk (Jet Li). The three of them go on to a journey after seeing the staff in Jason?s possession. There has been an ancient prophecy: Sun Wukong the Monkey King, who was jailed under the Five Fingers Mountain by Lord Buddha himself, will one day be freed by a "foreign youngster", who will return the staff to him. After learning of the arrival of Jason, the Jade Emperor (Collin Chou) immediately sends out his three highly skilled guards led by the White Haired Demoness (Li Bingbing) to get the staff from the boy. So the Battle begins. But not only the Battle, the Adventure goes on...

oh dear...
I was hoping Jackie fights Jet Li. oh wells

yea, I don't like rush hour series either. I love his old-school Police Story trilogy. it is golden. I can tell a lot of Americans won't get the Chinese jokes in those films.

Oh. My. God. He can't possibly hate a job that typecasts him as a quaintessential Chinese funny man! As a matter of fact, he can't possibly hate jobs, period!

I didn't like him before I read this. Now nothing could change my mind. The guy is a douchebag. Way to stand up for your principles, Jackie.

Chan does not get the "americanized" humor in the movies because we laugh at him.........not with him.

I do like the Rush Hour movies. I dont like any other movie that he's been in though.

lots of his older movies humor was rather tacky though. hong kong films spread the cheese on pretty thick
his lousy command of english probably doesn't help with the humor either.

I liked The Tuxedo with Jennifer Love Hewitt far more than the Rush Hour movies. Not a movie that you can recommend to any one but if it's on TV, it's decent mindless entertainment.

I have to agree, and a lot of his other 'Americanized' movies (Shanghai Noon/Knights, The Tuxedo, etc) don't do much for me either. His best era was in the mid-80's/mid-90's, with Operation Condor, Rumble in the Bronx, and the likes.

The first two were good. Third was decent, but way too short. Or, maybe it went by too fast?

Jackie Chan is a legend. Drunken Master remains to this day one the greatest Kung-Fu flicks ever made. The sad part is there probably won't ever be another Jackie Chan. The conditions that produced Jackie Chan, Jet Li, Sammo Hung, etc. will probably never exist again.

Maybe it's just because it puts me in a time and place when life was a lot easier and happier for my family, but I really enjoyed Rush Hour when it came out and wouldn't mind catching it on tv one of these days. I didn't care for the second one nearly as much and have yet to see the third, but I'm glad that at least Chan can be honest and give his true feelings towards the movies. That takes balls considering it won over a new generation of fans for him.

He did those to Hollywood taste. Not that he has much left in him to do what he used to do anyway.
