C=64 was my favorite system ever, I have fond memories of playing so long on hot summer days I had to put a damp cloth over the top back vent part of the floppy drive to keep it functioning. It's a miracle that never shorted it out lol. Outside of some WTF load times, that system was so far ahead of it's time for gaming.

R.I.P. Jack Tramiel, you made my childhood and early teen years so great. Kids today might have SLI and PS3, but they'll never have what I did thanks to you.

lol my cousin and I used to have to pile blankets and pillows around the 1541 floppy drive so we could play all night without his or my parents knowing what we were up to. Ah those were the days.

R.I.P. Mr Tramiel :(

This hurts, one of my friends who is/was an avid fan couldn't stop talking about him. Loved using/hacking with the C=64 during those days. Good thing I still have the system in storage. RIP.

sad days, the C64 was my first computer, I played that thing so much it was unreal.

GI Joe and some ant game, not sure what the ant game was but I played alot.

I actually went digging for my old C64 the other day at my mom's place and didn't find it, I was pretty disappointed

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uVV1TpeyQNc this one for the ant game? I remember playing this and I sucked balls at it. GI Joe was pure win, I use to play with my friends all the time.

I use to play skate or die just to listen to the intro music

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XetgpWY7WOg - Say what you want about EA, but they made some AWESOME C=64 games.

Who remembers Aztec Challenge? [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MdvUucZF_1I&feature=related this game might have been what made me curse for the 1st time.

RIP

Never had the 64, just the Vic 20. The 64 was very central to many of the games in those days though.

RIP.

LOAD "*",8,1 or whatever that command was. Fond memories of my 300 baud modem and the local BBS scene, Neuromancer, Pools of Radiance (+ the others), and an assortment of many others.

But does he have the sword. I must know.

He always denied it AFAIK, but the rumor persists.

RIP Jack. Commodore never gets the credit it deserves in the computer revolution of the 70s and 80s, and any history of computing article/book that I read which does not mention Commodore automatically loses its credibility. I

I have my C128 and two Amigas still connected and working and when I find my VIC 20, it will join them. My original C64 still works too.

The appeal of the C64 was arcade quality games, but you had to work to get them. Kind of made any game you got a victory :)

I remember saving my Vic 20 games that I typed line for line from those computer magazines to cassette tape...some of those programs were 5 or 6 pages....

ah...the good ol days...

I just watched the most epic C=64 video ever on Youtube. Some guy BEAT MISSION IMPOSSIBLE. That game frustrated me to no ends as a child, but for some reason I still played it a lot. To say I sucked at it would be an understatement.

"stay awhile, stay forever!" will haunt my memory until the day I die. And this guy BEAT IT! I'm in disbelief at what I just saw. I think in memory of Mr. Tramiel I'll load up the emulator and play some Law Of The West & Realm Of Impossibility tonight.

One thing I never understood about the Commodores was the randomness of how some games needed ,8,1 to run, but others would only run with ,8. Anyone here have an explanation for this? lol

I could beat Mission Impossible. It took me forever to figure out how the puzzle pieces fit together, but that was the hardest part.

The c64 could have multiple disk drives. Drive #2 would be accessed with 8,2...#3 would be 8,3, and so on. If your game was older and not coded for multiple drives, the ,1 was not needed.
