J. Williams Career likely over.

Very very smart of him. Brand new, right off the lot R1 (looked like). Big surprise it went that way for him. I'm still trying to figure out how the hell he crashed that bad all on his own. Oh well, I guess duke guys aren't any smarter than anyone else.

Edit: On another note I guess he can start going by Jason again.

I read today that he may miss only one season, check ESPN.com.

was just on sportscenter. i read the article on espn also. but they guy on sportscenter just reported that is nerve damage is "likely" career ending.

no matter how much you may hate a player or sport or athletes or whatever, it's always depressing and a wake up call to hear about something like this. Someone so young with seemingly "guarenteed millions" throughout at least age 30+ or so suddenly loses it all... i hope he is good at something else

ya, but in his case, it was pretty much his own fault.

sorry but if it were me, i wouldn't be riding any motorcycles untill i had a my big guaranteed contract.

He'll still never have to work another day in his life. Unless he pissed away all the money he got from his contract. Also im sure his agents worked out some kind of insurance policy should he have a career ending injury. He's still sitting pretty.

well, it would be in the 10's of millions max vs the 100's of millions he coulda got after endorsements.

if he had played up to his potential, he could have gotten a max 70 million dollar contract and an endorsement deal.

as it is, his endorsement deals that he may have aren't anywhere near what they could have been and he got a rookie contract albiet a first round draft choice one.

Exactlly. If he's dumb enough to be taking that risk with his professional life that's his problem. It's not exactly what happened to him was outside his control like say, Alanzo or Bo Jackson. Those guys got screwed. Williams screwed himself and is entitled to zero sympathy the way I see it.

i'm surprised that his contract didn't have a clause where it said he wasn't allowed to do certain potentially dangerous things. didn't jeff kent have a clause like that in his contract? if basketball contracts didn't have them before, i bet they'll start having them now.

Yeah, this can't be compared to Bo Jackson. I remember watching the game he got hurt and they said he had a "hip pointer", i.e. not a really big deal. He did limp off the field, with help, IIRC, but everyone figured he'd be back before long. The dude had some really bad luck. It's a shame... he was an incredible football player.

'Zo... some people say the anti-inflammatory drugs did it to him, so it's sorta his fault, but a nice guy like that doesn't deserve it.

Jay Williams... basketball's Brien Taylor (see the poll and athlete disappointments).
