J&W Technology

a.k.a. Shenzhen J&W Electronics Co. Ltd
a.k.a. Shenzhen Xianguan Electronic Co, Ltd

It appears they have been around for a while. Intel, NVIDIA, and AMD have mentions of J&W on their websites.

Anyone have some intel on this company or its possible relationship to Gigabyte? There are some aspects of J&W website and marketing style that bear a likeness to Gigabyte's, including the following "remark" which is taken verbatim from Gigabyte's motherboard specification pages:

  1. Due to different Linux support condition provided by chipset vendors, please download Linux driver from chipset vendors' website or 3rd party website.
  2. This product does not support Win9X/ME, due to most hardware/software vendors no longer offer support for Win9X/ME.
J&W's graphics/icons it uses to advertise features like "Dual BIOS" and "DDR2 800" also bear a likeness to the graphics used by Gigabyte:

Thanks, but I meant besides the blurbs on J&W's own website, which I've already sifted through. Specifically:

Anyone have some intel on this company or its possible relationship to Gigabyte?

they are just about to start selling some mobos in the UK via a large etailer/retailer.
It will be interesting to see how the boards perform & their support for them.

I remember reading about this on DigiTimes a while ago. Here's the full article.

With Taiwan-based first-tier motherboard makers focusing their R&D and shipments mainly on Intel-based platforms, Nvidia and AMD are looking to cooperate with China-based motherboard makers to increase their shipments, according to sources at channel vendors. The vendors added that the recent excellent performance being enjoyed by the China-based makers could lead to an impact on Taiwan's key players.

Although the current top-six selling motherboard makers in the China market are still Taiwan-based companies, with China-based makers including Colorful Technology, Topstar, Onda, Yeston, Gamen, Jwele and ASL having an advantage over lower costs and localization, the ability to copy Taiwan maker's technology and design, plus the full support of AMD and Nvidia, these companies are beginning to show great improvements in their technology, commented the vendors.

Another DigiTimes article, slightly more recent:

While Intel's P35 motherboard should have an average selling price (ASP) above US$100, China-based second-tier makers have slashed their P35 prices to US$60. The price competition has greatly affected Taiwan-based motherboard makers, especially those focused on the entry-level market such as ASRock and Elitegroup Computer Systems (ECS).

Most of China's motherboard brands outsource production to OEMs which gives them more flexibility over expense control. Additionally, China makers only demand cheap costs rather than product quality, and face little in the way of regulations if their products are found to have problems, claimed sources at Taiwan-based motherboard makers.

In order to reach the lowest price, China makers have employed several strategies including the use of the older ICH7 southbridge on their P35 motherboards which is against Intel's official specification, and is something Taiwan makers would not do, the sources protested.
However, the US$60 motherboards still offer almost comparable features and functions as the more expensive Taiwan-designed models, which means the Taiwan makers are finding themselves at a disadvantage, added the sources.

I think I'll stick with the good old "Made in the US"...er..."Made in Taiwan" boards.

They probably use leaky lead capacitors, and the heatsink is made out of depleted uranium.

so, basically we're going to have a bunch of ecs quality boards flooding the market.
(before anyone who thinks ecs makes great boards and jumps down my throat, i will harken back to my mostly costly mistake when i and a friend both bought the wonderfully inexpensive ecs boards in 2001 and thanks to the quality of the boards, both lost processors due to faulty or shabby voltage regulation. matter of fact, i was the dumber of the 2 of us as i bought another processor and a powersupply thinking that was the issue and promptly burnt out a 2nd cpu on the same board. fortunately, the ps lived on in 3 other boxes for another 4 years:))

seems DigiTimes is very lack of worldwide insight and is discriminating against the Chinese Manufacturer.

you will see J&W motherboards demonstrating in the Intel booth @ Cebit 2008,

and they are one of the 4 Tylersburg (Bloomfield) launch partners, and the only Chinese launch partner.
