I only go to J&R for research, there prices are OUTRAGEOUS! I work like 10 minutes from there and when I need to get something, I go there are lunch time to see the product and the order it online or buy it some place else. And their return policy Sux big time. My friend didn't know better and bought a Sony Vaio Desktop from them and he have to bring it back like 3 times to get repair. Once u pay, don't think of getting your money back, lucky if you get a store credit.

JandR.com is an option when BFL has one of their $29 off $79 and free shipping promotions. I have picked up a couple of $100 items which had rebates for almost nothing! Better than the Staples routine for me, as I don't have to pay the usual 7.5% sales tax from a NY seller...

uh, 8.25% here in nyc.

i only go to J&R to walk around. i went to HS around there (on chambers street)... i rarely ever buy... but i do buy. i go to the a\v store less often ;-)

nothing looks too interesting except the p3 notebook and the monitors maybe. hey noobody that is 130 - 80 MIR = 50+plus tax?

the router is the only thing insteresting me its 130-80MIR =50+tax
Do i need a router to share internet connection or a switch is enough? if i dont need the firewall function.

The Sony PCG-XG28 laptop goes for at least $1750 online.

Is this a grand opening sale for the new building they opened for computer stuff? If so it's a few weeks late because it opened awhile ago!

J&R is great to look around in. I go there once or twice a week during my lunch hour just to browse. (I work right down the block at 7 World Trade Center)

Anyone know if any of these deals will be starting during the week so I might actually be able to get one?

Flagg

the new building opened already?

i did not know that.

i have not been there for a while, lol

damn school ;-)

yea actually the building has been open for a while now
dunno why it's a grand opening but who am I to complain

as for returns, i've bought games at J&R and returned them successfully tho always for store credit. however J&R is pretty much only useful for taking a look at products or grabbing 5 dollar Netgear NIC Cards (sometimes their sales aren't so bad)

oh and Mday, STUY RULEZ ALL =)

Glad to see a lot of members are in NYC!

In fact I was in teh neighbourhood today but I didn't pay a visit because normally teh price are not good. It's good for checking out display model only and tehn order online from buy.com, staples, etc.

My biggest problem with the downtown J&R stores are the incompetent and unhelpful staff. They always look tortured when they have to help a customer and whenever they answer a question for me I always feel like they're just telling me whatever will get me off ther backs.

I'm a west-coaster that moved out to NYC last year and I thought Fry's had crappy customer service until I saw J&R.
