<< You're way too paranoid about CPUs breaking easily. >>

Yes, I am, because I always want to push it to the limit. I will not take any chance with marginal equipment. When Intel said that the Iwill Slocket 2 does not meet minimal functional requirement, it means something to me.

Do I overclock my CPU? Yes, I run P3-700 at 980 MHz.

Do I save a few penny using a cheap HSF? No, I use Alpha FCPAL-35t.

If you overclock, then you've obviously voided your warranty already, so which slocket you use is completely a moot point.

And btw, Intel tells you not to overclock, does that mean anything to you? Guess not.

LXi,

Telling customer not to overclock is an Intel business decision. (It hurts Intel's pocket book.)

Telling customer not to use Iwill Slocket 2 because it does not meet minimal functional requirements is an Intel technical decision. (It has no impact on Intel's business.)

Overclocking can potentially damage the CPU, but we know how to minimize that possibility.

Using parts that does not meet Intel spec can potentially damage the CPU, and there is no known workaround.

If you insist that these two cases are the same, so be it.

Im not going to nit pick like you are. Im just gonna tell you that if you overclock in the first place, you have already voided your warranty, thus which slocket you use doesnt mean anything anymore. Plus, the Iwill SlocketII is an old version, just like MSI's MS-6905Master revision 1.0/1.1, both fail to meet qualification. Right now both companies released new versions of their slockets, so it's completely pointless arguing about an issue thats already been dealt with by both Iwill and MSI.

Gotta agree with LXi's arguments in favor of the IWill, most of all the fact that it fits nice and snug in the Slot One retention mechanism. It is not good to have a loose/wobbly slotket.

As always, your mileage may vary ...

why isn't this topic beaten to death?

but i found thermite88 logical.
but, also, thermite, if we all had no problem what so ever with an Iwill,
why bother to stick with Intel's words so zealously.
mark this -- You Can't Prove a Conspiracy.

<<why bother to stick with Intel's words so zealously>>

Good point Andy. I use to be very zealous, but I find that very pointless and foolish.

<<mark this -- You Can't Prove a Conspiracy>>

Absolutely... further more, I question thermite's experience with the Iwill. If he hasnt had any, he has practically no say on this matter.

Iwill slocket II is a fine product, you will have no problems with it, end of story. Intel qualification is rediculous. They dont approve of any cooling other than the crap they supply.
