If you think moderately, opterons aren't bad. Memory on the other hand...

And it probably doesn't have a 64bit PCI slot :|

Well, if you're an IT department, they're not bad.

If you make $11/hr, they're way too expensive.

Nvidia only provides closed source drivers for Linux. It makes it a pain-in-the-butt compared to when a company properly supports it. Plus closed sourced drivers are usually quite a bit buggier then Open Sourced ones and when using closed source stuff like that it makes it difficult to trace down bugs in the kernel in order to fix any problems that are happening.

Via stuff does pretty good for this sort of thing. I think that they provide decent documentation for their hardware so that developers can make drivers that work well with out serious trouble. Nvidia is obsessed with keeping everything a secret.

Nothing for most people. But their lack of documentation makes it a PITA to get it working properly with a Free operating system.

In Windows XP the NForce chipsets are awesome.

I don't really like running linux on anything other than Intel chipsets, I've too many troubles with both NV and Via in the past.

Ahhh, yeah I think I have one of those.

I'm actually running IDE on my serverworks machine. It's working quite nicely, although everytime I try to make a kernel it tries to leave the drivers out.
