Iwill KK266

:Bought a 1.2ghz barebones system for my father. Anyway I am not sure if this is normal procedure with some companies, but when I recieved the case, the mobo was already installed with the wrong screws. Second they gave me an Iwill mobo instead of a Biostar.
Apart from that, this case was supposed to be stable, well here is my case.

When I setup the case I bought a
cd rw Samsung
52xcd-rom Samsung
Geforce 2 MX400 VC
sound blaster 5.1
Mobo Iwill KK266
1.2ghz amd OCZ gladiator 8000rpm
Hard drive Maxtor 20gb 7200rpm
bios date code October 22, 2001.
Issues: When I install Win2k, this is after flashing the bios, I have the cd in the cd rom drive , It prepares the system and the installation begins, however the cd will run, then slow down then increase in speed and the copying would go extremely slow. Ie in 5 or 6 minutes only 3 percent of the installation would get done. Thus it would complete like 14 percent and fail or freeze up I get the typical message, "if this is the first time this error has happened check hardware bla bla bla" Well then I disconnected the CD-rom and would use the CD-RW and re-certified the harddrive using Maxtors power tools. Well passed all of those. So I did the installation again and the same error with the CDRW.

Thus I gave up with Win2000. I decided to use Win98 sec which is better I guess for gaming since my dad likes Counter Strike and Flight Simulator and he is almost 60. Again I found the the same error but managed to install on the third try and it's now 3:30 am 🙁.

I managed to install all the drivers without a problem and hooked up to my buddies network and copied what I needed. When it came to copying games such as Sierra, Return to Castle Wolfenstein and so on it would do the same load up but the copying of files from the cd drives to the hard disk would give me the blue screen of death and an error : "Error writing to C: Drive" and I would automatically do a thorough surface scan when restarting.

So basically I came to the conclusion that the KK266 either sucks or I'm an idiot and should stick to Nintendos!! Well I made a complaint to the company I bought the system from and hopefully they with refund me or give me a working system. However in all honesty, I think that the mobo might have been ruined due to the companies neglect. In any case if someone has any ideas tell me so my father will stop using my DAMN computer 🙁

Hmm...could use a bit more information. I know that there isn't any issues running Windows 2000 with Iwill's KK266, because that's what's in my wife's system right now. What BIOS version are you using? Have you tried another Hard Drive? Does that Hard Drive react the same during installation in another system?

Could be that your CDR and CDRW are having problems reading your OS cd's (due to scratches or otherwise)..... I have a couple of the TRUE-X CDRs and they had problems from time to time reading burned OS cds. I flashed the bios on my TRUE-X drives and they seem to work better now.

you probably got the wrong settings in bios for the drives.....and enable dma......go into bios and check it out .....this board is very fast (for it''s time)...and stable......something is not set up right...
just 1 possible reason....

i never had a problem installing anything on my iwill, except with burned win2k disks. for some reason random files wont read from burned win2k disks. i have to have like 5 or 6 of them in order to get through an install...but now that i use XP, it installs just fine and dandy without a hitch! i even installed it on the raid drives and it didnt even give me a hiccup. i would definetly try installing with the bare minimums as well. try with only a vid car, cdrom, and floppy. it should work, if not i would guess that maybe your cdroms are fubarred or more likely the HDD.

good luck

Loosebrew and Vamp Armand you were almost right. Just my luck and you guys should check this out. I took out both Samsung CD drives and stuck a regular cd-rom 40x from my girlfriends computer some DELL . Installation of Win2k using my companies cds they have tons of licences they wont know 🙂 went perfectly, no hang ups nothing, just constant data from cd to hard disk copying files. The bios version I am using by the way are the defaults. I mean it really doesnt matter if the system runs fine.

However the ultimate test was installing Wolfenstein and it ran perfectly. ANyway I'm gonna throw those 2 drives out the window. I found out that Samsung does not even make the CD RW and I am not getting another 52 X unless its from KENWOOD, am I right or what? 🙂

ANyway guys thanks for all your help!

My father can use the stupid thing and I do not want to even see it anymore. Ahhh come back to me my darling Athlon XP 😀 Anyway to hell with Samsung cd drives Im just sticking to there monitors!!!!!!

By the way did you see that Anandtech rated the IWill KK266 9.0/10.0 was the guy on crack?
Just kidding its actually faster than my EPOX isnt that weird?
