After I read overclockers.com "IWILL RECALL" article how simple it is to fix the above revision, I decided tonight to make the change myself. It is just one SMD move, and it took me just 5 minutes to make the change (I couldn't wiat for the exclusive RMA process).

And, yes, it all is fixed (multiplier and some other minor issues), and the board with my new 1.2 266 Tbird and Crucial CAS2 is running at 1480:

Speed 1480
Using 148x10
Sandra MEM 584/657
Sandra CPU 4134/2005
FlashAMD2 23.10 (Way_of_the_Gun in just 2.5 hours)

I noticed that my MAX FSB is 148 as the screen is scrambled at 150. Wonder if that is with all Creative Geforce DDR video cards? My promise modded (ULTRA100) FASTRACK is running great (I read today that the Promise FASTRACK can't handle anything over 33 PCI bus).

I recommend this IWILL KK266 board to every one, and make sure you get the "AXIA" processors!! What a combination! Mine , will do over 1500 easily with 1.8Volts.

IWILL is a great company, and I think it is fantastic how they have handeled this problem.

Everyone should be happy!!!

PS: Thank you Ed from overclockers.com

I better head on over to overclockers.com. I have an I-WILL KK266-R that is due to arrive here
Friday.

BTW, do you know a good source to get a 1.1GHz (266 variety)?

Thanks

I'm happy for you that it was an easy mod. I'll still wait a couple weeks to order my board tough. I heard it was hard just to see the resistor, let alone solder it.

But if you pardon my ignorance, what is an "AXIA" processor? Is it the 266MHz?

Thanks,
WW

What were the "other minor issues" it fixed? Can you explain what methods you used to make the fix?

Thanks

i just ordered one of these afdter reading the Anandtech article and now i hear there is a recal?! WTF.. would have been nice for Anand to maybe mention that in the artical. i have a MSI Pro2A with like the same stupid multiplier problem. WHAT IS UP!! i emailed Newegg and told them to check if it is a version 1.2 board or i'll just send it back to THEM as broken. I can't belive it is so hard to get a decent socket A mobo.

-edit-

i just found this, almost all brands have some boards with this issue

http://www.overclockers.com/tips376/

damn, is it time to consider intel??

You obviously haven't read up on the issue, all of the problem boards should have been pulled by now. Before you send it back you better check to see if the resistors are correct, you can see what they are supposed to look like at overclockers.com.

AXIA refers to the manufacturing code on the CPU. The higher in the alphabet the third letter is, the more recent the manufacturing and the better they overclock. 1.0 GHz chips and higher with an "I" for the third letter usually make it to 1400+ overclocked.
