UPDATE: Got it working, read my last reply to see how I did

Ok, here's my setup:

IDE 1: CD-RW (master), CD-ROM (slave)
IDE 2: DVD-ROM (master), ZIP100 (slave)
RAID 1: IBM 30gig ATA/100 (master), Maxtor 20gig ATA/100 (slave)
RAID 2: IBM 30gig ATA/100 (master)

Here's what I want:

The 2 IBM 30gig's Setup in a RAID 0 array
The Maxtor drive used AS-IS (I have data on there I can't loose)
Windows 2000 installed on IBM 30gig RAID 0 array
I want the RAID 0 Array Partitioned as follows: 10/10/20/20

Here's what I can get:

I can get the RAID 0 Array created in the AMI BIOS
I can get the AMI ATA/100 RAID controller installed in win2k setup
CD-ROM/CD-RW/DVD-ROM/ZIP100 all are working fine

Here's what I can't get:

PROBLEM 1
AMI BIOS won't let me use the Maxtor AS-IS, it keeps telling me there is a new drive installed, and that I should set it up in a RAID Array (press ctrl+M to enter setup). It will not continue to boot if I don't press ctrl+m.
SOLUTION 1
possible solution: put Maxtor drive on IDE 1 or IDE 2 after win2k is installed, backup data to RAID 0 array, make maxtor drive a single disk RAID 0 array, copy data back from IBM RAID 0 array to Maxtor RAID 0 array. - will it work?

PROBLEM 2
I have the RAID 0 IBM array setup correctly in the BIOS, enter win2k setup, press F6, install driver, continue setup, setup says disk is blank, go to create partitions, create partition (10gig), go to continue setup, select just created partition to install to, then setup says:
THAT PARTITION IS EITHER INVALID OR NOT COMPATIBLE WITH WINDOWS 2000, PLEASE CREATE A WINDOWS 2000 COMPATIBLE PARTITION AND CONTINUE

How is that partition not win2k compatible, windows just created it!!!
Is the AMI Hyperdisk ATA/100 RAID controller not supported by win2k? It must be, the drivers specifically say "FOR WINDOWS 2000" (there are seperate win2k and winNT drivers (yes I used the right ones, and tried the winnt ones for the heck of it anyways)?
Why can't I use the Maxtor drive as-is?!?!?!?

UPDATE:
I tried two different BIOS's - The Modded 5015 and Iwill's 5015 BIOS, both produced a new result:

setup would crash at the message: Now Starting Windows 2000 (right after it finishes all it's initial file copies). If I didn't install the HyperDisk RAID 100 drivers it would continue fine, except it wouldn't be able to find any hard disks.

I also tried using the newest drivers, but they didn't affect anything.

Those posts seem to refer more to the BIOS, whereas my problem is more with the driver (I think), oh well I'm gonna try it anyways, plese feel free to post more help here....

Here are my thoughts.

[*]Since you are running a raid array, put the Maxtor on the NON-raid ide1 as Master, cdrom slave, CDRW as master 2, dvdrom as slave 2.

[*]Go here and download the latest AMI HyperRaid 100 drivers, and extract to a floppy. When you specify mass storage (F6) during Win 2K setup, use this floppy, and highlight the last one (there will be 4 listed), hit enter, hit enter again and leave floppy in until PC reboots.

That does sounds like a good idea, except one thing:

Where do I put the ZIP drive?

I will try the new drivers though...thanks :).

<< Where do I put the ZIP drive? >>

You either put in place of a cd / dvd or leave it out.

I think my idea of backing up the Maxtor drive, and then using it in a single disk RAID array will work...but first I need to get Windows 2000 Install to work correctly

If you are running the IBM's as a stripe, then you might want to connect the Maxtor and make a 3 disk array.

Why would I need to connect the Maxtor into a 3 disk array, why can't I just have 2 arrays:

Array 1: 2 IBM drives in RAID 0
Array 2: 1 Maxtor drive in RAID 0

when you download drivers, download MEGARAID 100 drivers, not the hyperdisk 100 drivers, because the bioses from 4-26 on have incorporated a new bios for the raid controller, and the old hyperdisk drivers arent compatible.

If you downloaded the ones I linked you to up above, then you are fine.

I found it hard to give up my 5 1/4 floppy. But sometimes you have to just move on loose the zip and Maxtor,

two hardrives and a burner are more than enough for anyone.

Just a note, if I use a win98 boot disk, I cannont see the array in fdisk (says no devices attached).

Also, I have a need for the zip drive & maxtor drive, and should be able to use them.

And the drivers I downloaded are called "HyperDisk" on iwill's site, but they are MEGARAID when you get into win2k setup.

e-mailed tech support. They responded in 5 min (that's unbelieveable). They said to remove the zip drive & try again. I did, and it worked (using old BIOS & new drivers). Anyways, thanks for all your help guys.
