IWILL KK266 question...bear with me

Ive searched these forums for the answer to this question but I havent really found anything definitive. I know some people seem to be irritated with this subject but im gonna ask anyway, dont crucify me 😉

Am I correct in my understanding that any of the old kt133a chipset motherboards will support any speed palamino chip?

I would like to upgrade my older KK266 (Standard KK266 rev 1.2, no + or -R) which currently has an overclocked Tbird 750@863.

Im shipping off to the military in about 6 months and have no desire to spend oodles of cash fully upgrading a computer I will soon be parted from, but there are some games im unable to play well enough with my current system so I need to do something quick and cheap.

I see that newegg has an xp1800 Palamino core CPU, I know that the board will support an older Palamino, like the 1.2 and so on, but could it possibly work with the 1800 as well? Or is it a different revision of the palamino requiring a more modern chipset?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

so far, i've tested Palo xp1600 and xp2000 on my collections 🙂P) of KK266

both had trouble maintaining stability... i put in Athlon.. it's rock solid.

i wouldn't put XP in that mobo,, altho the KK266 is best SDRAM Socket A mobo, it doesn't match well w/ xp series (with long-gone support from Iwill)

I don't think so.

MSI Turbo 1 and 2 blow it away in both stability and power, plus Turbo 2 has support for XP2600+.

I used to have a kk266, I wouldn't trust the tbreds on it. If you wanna upgrade then get a 1.4 tbird. You'll get most of the power and its rock solid stable.

Check the thread at www.amdmb.com. That forum has hundreds of posts regarding KK266 & XP processors. Mine did run XP 1900 fine except I had to hit reset everytime I had to cold boot (after hitting the power switch). It dependes on your mb revision, psu, etc. It'll take you several hours to read all the responses at amdmb.com.
