I wholeheartedly agree. Those threads get too long and few people read them. People end up posting requests in vain.

If you see a hot deal on the web, just post it, don't wait for IWANNA stuff!

I agree. I never like reading HUGE posts with multiple pages... I've never liked the idea.

they should open a new forum: "looking for deals" (or "iwanna")

How about simply a special forum for "I Want"? People from both "For Sale/For Trade" can take a look there, as well as people who normally post here. Just a thought...

Or, just scrap the idea all together and in the FAQ or HELP put the following: Instead of asking for a hotdeal, post the best price YOU can find on a deal as a warm deal. (It shouldn't take very long to search around the web for whatever it is you are looking for to get the average price and the best price you can find).

If what you post is not the best price, someone will surely tell you so and where they got a better deal. If you are a scammer and post a lame price, people will just call you names and/or ignore you. If it's the best price, the thread will grow and grow and you'll be a hero. So, it's a pretty good method.

Just my $.01 (Discounted 50% for anandtech hotdeals).

I like dman's idea. I hate the elitest asses here who are always bitching about junior members cluttering up their precious Hot Deals threads with posts that they consider off topic.

First off, there's no way to really "clutter" the threads unless an IWANNA request gets a ton of replies. Otherwise, it will die within 24 hours, since there are constantly new hot deal threads being posted here. (Of course, jumping all over a newbie over and over again does nothing but keep a thread alive.)

Let people post what they want. The only way the thread will stay active is if 1: someone DOES indeed find a hot deal the person was looking for, and lots of people get excited about it, or 2: the jerks swarm in talking about how distracting the off-topic post is.

nobody reads the FAQ. I sure didn't but that doesn't mean I'll post what I'm looking for in a hot deals thread. It takes only some common sense for someone to post their messages in the right forums.

IBuyINFO: It's not a matter of people posting in the "right" forum. THe point is that IWanna isn't the "right" forum for anything. You may as well not be posting at all. NO ONE responds there (because -- and here the mind really boggles -- you're only allowed to posts REQUESTS in that forum, not public responses. Which means if one person is looking for something and someone else finds it, the public can't benefit -- only that person, presumably, gets a private message. And I'd bet even that rarely, if ever, happens.)

There have been countless "off-topic" threads that have turned into hot deals. I say, let us decide what is off topic and what isn't. If you don't like something, don't post a reply and it will go away. If someone posts something you find valuable, adn you add to the discussion, and 30 people other do too, how could it really have been off-topic when so many of us found it valuable?

I've been asking for an iwanna forum for a long time and apparently the anandtech folks shot it down when they voted on it.

Hey Guys! This thread is in the Wrong Forum, also.

It should be posted in "Forum Issues". Actually it was - several times - but didn't get enough response for Zuni. If everyone here would post there, maybe we could get results.

Perhaps we could have a Requests/I Wanna AND Brag and Moan Forum in one. It would also generate more private sales.

You can complain all you want about it here and it will never even get read by a moderator, let alone the administrator.

Right now there are only 4 replies to nippyjun's thread about this in Forum Issues. If you really want Zuni or the Administrator to notice, go there now and cast your vote for it. (Don't be lazy, just cut and paste your responses from here to there.)
