I'm at 4.0Ghz with 1.18vcore on my 3570k. Max temps were 60-63C during OCCT. I'd like to hit at least 4.2Ghz but I'm not sure about the temps.

The temps are fine. Constant whining about temps that people perceive as high is getting annoying.

It is undeniable that IB temperatures are hotter than SBs. It will take some time for people to re-learn the proper temperature ranges. Honestly, we probably don't have enough examples to look at yet to even know what common temps will be, yet. There is also (imho) a lot of uncertainty about how quickly 22nm will degrade at various voltages and temperatures.

Is there a "quick and dirty" overclocking guide around (for asus z77 motherboard)? I'm coming from a x58 system so I'm not familiar with how to overclock the chip optimally with regards to all the different turbo settings and voltages and such.

How high are you looking to take it?

Now playing at 4.5ghz @ 1.25v. Will try shooting it up some more, but everything seems stable using bios 3209. A lot better than my sandy which had probs with 4.4.

Shamino and other extreme overclockers have stated that IB seems to be more rugged when it comes to higher temps and volts because of so many revisions intel had to push out compared to sandy bridge processors.

If people are so worried about killing them then why even buy a K model or invest 20 bucks to that "Intel Tuning Plan" and if it dies send it off to intel and get another.

-nice week 11
-hope to see better oc's on later batches.
-good luck.

Thanks, though it'll probably have to wait a week because I have so much going on atm. =(

Will be cooling it with a h100.

Minimal, really.

The 3 advertised biggies are native USB3, PCI-E 3.0 (minimal difference unless 2560x res or multi gpu), and licensed Virtu MVP.

The REAL BIGGIE is out of the box DDR3 2400, 2600, or even 2800.

So for a decent majority of gamers out there the recipe is going to be:
1) Mix 1 3570k or 3770k with a z77 board and add 2 x 4gb of DDR3 2400-2800, 120gb Crucial or Samsung SSD, and a GTX 680 (or the cheaper HD 7970).
2) Grab a Hyper 212 Evo or better cooling.
3) Set the CPU to 1.2-1.25v for 4.5ghz and PLL to 1.6v.
4) Test for stability.
5) Enable Virtu MVP.
6) Game on!

Is virtu a feature of all z77? I bought the gigabyte GA-Z77-D3SH and it doesnt say it supports it, but it would be a nice feature down the road.

No.
You have to buy a z77 board that has it bundled with it.
But it should run on all z77.
You just have to download it and buy the license from what I understand as it can run on some z68's too.

What Mobo ?

I think we need to have a few more people with the same config, to get a typical value..

So at this point, how much faster in IPC is Ivy Bridge vs Bloomfield?

Would the jump from 4Ghz i7 920 to a 4.5Ghz Ivy Bridge be significant?

Finally got up set up (mostly) with my Asrock Extreme4 and 3570K. It feels weird...maybe because everything is so much faster. Haven't run any benches or done any overclocking yet, still working on drivers and software, but will get there soon.

I might just go for it in about ten days, since my local MC has them for such a good price (Newegg, you suck!). I've been struggling with temps even at 4.5 GHz with Sandy and I don't really want to OC it to the eyeballs. I must... resist...

Man, that CAS 10 DDR3-2400 RAM sure looks like the shizzle...

I hooked up my ivy bridge today. Disconnected in less than 1 hour - I need my comp working. Gonna need the weekend to figure out this gigabyte board. Man this bios sucks ass compared to the asrock- its so god damn convoluted, its sickening. Got another h80.. now all I need is some ram and a PS. What is the lowest wattage PS I can get for a CPU only (and ssd) setup? I'm glad that I did not remove one of my (other) H80s from my 1090T or 2500K - I would've been livid if doing so messed up my great oc on my 2500k.

Board is a z77x-ud5h blah blah. It sucks

I ordered the same board, how bad can it be?

I hope that's how I'll feel when I get mine
