Unless.. IDC and his mates decide to "fix" it. Reverse engineering, for the winOh REALLY? One can dream![]()
Rv,
There is no way if amd died that chip prices would go through the roof. The market wouldn't allow it.
You really ought to take an elementary economics lesson, Rvenger, before spouting more crap and making yourself look more foolish than you've already done.
First of all, I exaggerated a little on the 'loan' part. Intel won't hold prices the same and of course they would increase them but I think they would more or less limit the technology rather than drive prices sky high. So yeah, $299 for an i5 if AMD dropped out completely is definitely possible. I have been in sales for 10 years, I see patterns like this constantly.
in the far right??? ()Just no...its already been explained to you why.
Guess where Intel prices are today on this one:

okey and now a serious question
okey and now a serious question
i3 from the sandy were the only sandy cpu that support ecc ram (mainstream not xeon)
that will be the case with the i3 with the ivy !?!?!?
will ivy i3 support ecc?? with the proper chipset??
from intel specsNo SB desktop supports ECC. Only Xeons. Same with IB.
So not sure where you got that idea.
from intel specs
they clearly state ecc is suporte from i3 cpu with server chipsets
thus c202 c04 c206

Explain the purpose of intel releasing the 2700k? Certainly carried a hefty price considering its only 100mhz faster.
2700K cost the same as 3770K. The 2700K cost 16$ more in MRSP Boxed than 2600K.
So +100Mhz in the top bin for 16$ more is a "hefty price"?
Why? AMD would be almost completely irrelevant right now if Intel sold an unlocked i3.Glad the i3's are coming out. I don't care whether they are unlocked or not though.
Seriously? What do I care whether or not AMD is relevant? I don't care who makes the CPU, as long as it does what I bought it for. Why? AMD would be almost completely irrelevant right now if Intel sold an unlocked i3.
This is a terrible attitude to have. "I don't care if Intel disables some feature that a lot of other people use, because I don't use it!"Seriously? What do I care whether or not AMD is relevant? I don't care who makes the CPU, as long as it does what I bought it for.
Link?
The board or chipset got nothing to do with ECC support. Its all handled in the CPUs memory controller. And no i3 supports ECC.
Yes I personally do not care whether or not Intel makes an unlocked i3. I don't see the issue with that. It is quite obvious that you do in fact care. That is great. I don't. Now, notice I did not say "I do not want Intel to make an unlocked i3 because I don't overclock". Which I believe is what you interpreted my other posts as saying. This is a terrible attitude to have. "I don't care if Intel disables some feature that a lot of other people use, because I don't use it!"
