So we need to wait till next week to buy? So annoying... "released" today, can't buy for a week... At least D3 will be out when they say it will be out.

Looks like I will only be picking up an i7-3770k if my brother wants to buy my i5-2550k off me... if not I'm pretty happy with my i5-2550k right now...

Ok, I have neither SB or IB and since looking at the reviews, for some reason, I feel like my safe bet is with a 2500K instead of the 3570K mainly because of price, availability, lower heat and still can do just as well as that CPU. Both can OC about the same as well and from what I read, IB is the last of the 1155 socket till Haswell's 1150. Also, I can get my computer RIGHT NOW if I do go the way of Sandy Bridge. Also, the bit higher power doesn't affect me because I'm getting a new PSU in the form of an NZXT HALE90 750W 80+ Gold. So which one?

Why would you spend 220 on a 2500K when the 3570K is the same price and available on sunday?

I've seen comments on OCN about how they're going to buy a 2500K instead. Why? Ivy and Sandy are the same price. Why would you pay the same price for a 15 month old chip?

Well Microcenter, with tax, has a 2500K for about 190 bucks. Just a thought.

I do have some sort of time constraint, and I also wish to get my stuff done this week, not next week. I'm just impatient. I mean, all I need now is 3 more parts (CPU, Mobo and PSU) and I'm done. But I guess the IB plus Z77 combo will be worth more in the long run?

Buy a Z77 mobo, PSU and just wait till sunday for the chip

I am going to go ahead and get the 2700K. I am going from an I5-750.

It's your money but...

But seriously, why a [freaking] Sunday? Why couldn't they release it when the NDA lifted?

No profanity in the tech forums please

I've already gotten warnings for profanity, but GODDAMN #))#*@*))*#$ this is stupid. I had this weekend free to put it together too! This is scumbaggery!

I voted yes, but it depends on some outside variables. I won't be getting one for 6 months or more, and there is a remote chance that something else might come along in the meantime and change my mind.

Maybe they timed it according to when people get their tax refunds and payday? Several companies I've worked for do this with their product launches and availability... paper launches first to let you know its coming so you don't spend your soon to be incoming paycheck for the week...D:

What if the NDA didn't lift until Sunday?

exactly. I find it hilarious when people complain that we get reviews before the product is available. if they cant pull that actual release forward then I am still all for getting the NDA lifted ahead of release.

Staying with my 2500k @4.6 as its plenty fast for everything I do right now (coming from a Centrino Duo T7200 Dell Inspiron 9400). 4 extra threads would be nice, but I just can't justify the 100 quid premium for HT. Still, its impressive to see Intel continuing to move forward and improve their products.

I still don't see the alure. For gaming, I'm not plunking down 200$+ for 5 more fps in Starcraft 2. I'm sticking with my i5-750@4.2, which last time bench'd can outrun a stock 2500k. Good enough for me. Are people really upgrading for gaming alone?

I think it all depends on what you're going to use it for. Like in your case, sure there's no real reason to upgrade. But, for someone like me who doesn't even have a desktop anymore and is running from a 3 year old gaming laptop, there's a lot of allure. To each their own 🙂

That's exactly why I don't upgrade for 3 years and when I do I try to get a platform that is upgradable and more "future proof".
