Are you buying Ivy Bridge?

  • Yes a 3570K

  • Yes a 3770K

  • No staying with Sandy Bridge

  • No buying Bulldozer ;)

after the NDA drops maybe then we can see what different 3770k batches look like, unless they use the es samples they have like most reviewers did for the 3820 for the hits.

I'm interested in an itx setup featuring an i3, so I'm waiting for the knowledge to drop.

Haswell it is then. SB wasn't worth the trouble of upgrading from a 4.1GHz 920 D0 (for me) and IB looks to be somewhat worse (a little higher OC, but very high temps).

Any particular gotchas with UEFI or have the implementations had time to mature sufficiently?

i7 3770k for me. I have a funny felling that tomorrow will be the day the NDA is lifted but we still wont be able to buy them until the 29th. I hope im wrong.

It could also be, the thing...

Holding onto my 2700k. I should be able to sell it for an i5-3570k if I get the IVB itch.

One great thing about Ivy Bridge is that the I3's will be overclockable with a 133mhz bus meaning a 3.4Ghz I3 will clock up to 4.5Ghz

That's yet to be seen, but if it's true, there's zero reason to buy an AMD CPU anymore other than wanting the higher IGP performance because their CPUs will get battered no matter how you look at it. There's a bigger overall performance disparity between the FX-4xxx and Core i3-3xxx than the HD 4000 and HD 6530D/6550D.

Going for a 3570K for myself. Upgrading from an i7-860.

A small upgrade. I don't know why you'd waste efforts in it even if you overclock, to be honest.

As far as multi-threading goes it's a marginal 5-10% improvement and in single-threaded it's a 20-30% improvement.

NDA from Intel is always lifted at 12AM.

12AM Eastern? Pacific?

Clock for clock, ideally an IB chip will clock noticeably higher.

Does IB still run cooler than SB when not overclock. I was waiting for IB just because I heard it was supposed to run cooler and uses less power. If it that's not the case I'll just get SB if there's no other advantage IB have over SB

Yes it does run cooler and use less power. There is honestly no point in buying a 2500K for 219.99 when for 219.99 a 3570K could be had

Cooler, not quite but I can't tell very well as I don't have a SB to compare with. If you are not overclocking at all, IB is still a better choice. Temps are probably the same as SB and power consumption will definitely be lower.

I anxiously await for the NDA lift tonight. I'm hoping all the news about the high temps when OC'ing is false, I definitely have the urge to buy a new toy at midnight tonight!
