i wouldnt think of getting anything but ib at this point. almost immediately youre going to see microcenter sellling ib for the same price as the current sb. i havent followed it closely enough but are there going to be new boards out as well? with what new features--usb, light peak, etc...i still wouldnt buy right away, theres a good chance the stuff coming out on monday will have annoying bugs. ill wait 4-5 months.

If the Computer Shopper Review that got pulled wasn't a fluke, then it looks like the i7-3770k might be a good overclocker after all and I'd probably get that.

It will give 5 to 15 percent performance boost over 2700k

However Haswell in 2013 is going to give the Ivy Bridge a body shot... Haswell will be new technology , sorta how we went from Pentium 4 to a Core 2 series. thx gl

No way you'll see a P4->Core2 performance jump when going from IB->Haswell. That's totally unrealistic. The P4->Core2 transition was a complete paradigm shift. IB->Haswell is noway near that.

IB->Haswell will be more like a 10-20% jump (except for certain specific execution cases). The IGP will probably be a lot faster though from what is known so far (20-50% for GT2, ~200% for GT3). However you'll likely also get higher TDP if you chose one of the models with GT3 and L4 cache (since Haswell does not bring any new process technology => it won't bring any major power saving).

Time to ditch this old i7 920 C-stepping jerk that won't overclock past 3.6 ghz.

Also, my water cooling system is turning a distinct green color. And I don't really want to guess what is growing inside there. 😱

Lol don't you have any silver in there? Get some biocide >.>

Time to break it down clean it out and get some new tubing anyways, Ivy is coming!

Most likely will be going to a 3770k from a 860. Asrock Z77 Fatality for the board. Really need the 10 sata and the particular board layout.

I was hoping for a 5GHz gaming stable OC for the 3770k (for benchmarks mostly), but it seems this will be a problem. Unfortunately I don't have any other choice, so at this point I can only hope they will be OKish for the job. Maybe I will just disable HT for gaming benchmarks and enable it for my video encodings.

In any case, I reckon that a 3770k at max clocks, will be able to give me 50% more performance that a 860 at max clocks.

i will go IVB if i can get a good deal on the Intel Employee Bundle (CPU+MB+SSD) as my cousin is an employee. otherwise it's SB (not sticking with, but upgrading to 😉 )

Going from the system in my sig to the 3770K/Asus Sabertooth Z77 mainboard. Assuming they go on sale tomorrow, I'll order first thing in the AM and be at Microcenter when they open 🙂

I'm keeping my 2500K for a while. I might pop a 3770K in there in a year or so, but other than that, I can't see doing any big moves for a few years. I tend to keep my machines for 2-4 years and I just built this one in Feb.

I was going to go with 3770k, but I don't think I do enough that warrants HT, and given the extra cost I will stick with 3570k and some middle overclocking.

Unless something went horribly wrong and it's not enough better than SB.

That sucks. I have mine at 3.7 with just a Noctua fan and heatsink with a D0 revision. Just sucks that the IB boards don't offer more than 4 dim slots.

i5 3570K for me. The K because when this CPU one day will enter the HTPC it got HD4000.

i7 3770 is a 100$ waste for 99% of all the people buying it.

One great thing about Ivy Bridge is that the I3's will be overclockable with a 133mhz bus meaning a 3.4Ghz I3 will clock up to 4.5Ghz

It has biocide (Benzalkonium chloride) lol. That's why I don't want to know what is growing in there that can resist it 😱
