Looks like Im soon going to upgrade 3 parts. CPU, ram and mobo. The rest I have.

Im thinking of a 3820k but is that faster then a 3770k. Im confused. The 3770k costs 40 or 50 dollars more.

Then when Ivy E chip comes I want to yank this one out and put that one in.

Importantly it will be on a Sabertooth X79 motherboard.

So Im thinking a BIOS upgrade or something so the Ivy E would work on the Sabertooth.

I basically want to know if I can do this and use same mobo. Thanks guys

Hopefully, Ivy-E should work in a Sandy-E board. "Should" is the important word in that sentence though! There's no guarantee that any of the boards out at the moment will support Ivy-E- the odds are good, but it's still a gamble.

Also, bear in mind that the current Sandy-E boards aren't truly PCIe Gen3 verified.

Tweak looking at your sig I'd think you don't upgrade often anyways. Why worry about it being compatable at all?

I dont have any knowledge future products for socket 2011. So based on past support with motherboards moving from 2nd generation Intel® Core™ processors to 3rd generation Intel Core processors all it required was a Bios update. So if this carries through you should be able to use our next processors with a bios updated once we release them.

The thing is I would get a Ivy E 6 core 12 thread right now, if it was out!
I cant wait 8 months I have a few projects Im working on.

I simply use a Steinway Grand and when I play it the CPU usage can go up to 100 percent and crash. With a new CPU I could probably play the synth and go crazy on the keys and I will get at most 10 percent CPU usage.

Now I can have more tracks and more synths as my projects grow larger and larger. For sure Im getting 32GB ram, then 64GB upgrade when I have the finances. Thanks for all your replies guys.
