Ivy 3550 @ 1.6GHz for months!

OK, this is embarrassing but I thought I'd share anyways. I've been running my 3550 @ 1.6GHz for probably 8 months. I recall doing some trouble shooting as to why my machine wasn't sleeping when idle. I moved the power profile to Power Saver and forgot about that for 8 months.

I've played some games which I was surprised bogged down my system (w/ GTX 560Ti), but my SSD made it responsive enough where I didn't notice day to day.

Now I'm running @ 4.1 GHz and life is good!

I wonder which is faster, my Q9300 @ 3.0, or your 3550 at 1.6. Would be an interesting comparison.

I 'downgraded' to my Ivy from my Qx9770 @ 3.6GHz. For what I do, my Ivy @ 1.6GHz was still faster, but that's all due to the SSD.

My Lightroom work is much faster now, and I do notice the browser is more responsive.

Sins of a Solar Empire was crushing my system when it got to late game, so I'm sure this will help.

Hey, at least you found the problem. I wonder what percentage of people in a similar situation would run their processor down-clocked until EOL.

I actually found it by running Kraken. I usually never run any benchmarks, but I saw a thread on Ars and I was curious. I was ~3100ms so I knew something was off when comparing it to other results. After changing my plan, I was a bit over 1300ms.

the Q9300 at 3.0 would easily beat the 3550 at 1.6. do you really think that Ivy Bridge is nearly twice as fast clock for clock as your cpu?

RussianSensation used to bring out some benchmarks, indicating that a 2500K was twice as fast as a Q6600 in gaming, at equal clocks.

So I wondered.
