they want a 2 year commitment so the players have a while to train and practice with each other, so they can actually play like a team this time around.

No. This will give them 2 off-seasons to practice together. Team sports like basketball are tough for the US because the international teams play together year round most of the time. Talent alone can only take you so far in basketball when playing against formidable competition.
 
I'm glad to see we're actually hoping to send some good outside shooters this time. Most notably Billups, Bowen, Jamison and Redd. Areneas loves to throw it up too.

If we'd sent just a few good perimeter shooters last time we would've won the gold. But having a team full of slasher-types with no consistent outside shooting threat killed us because the Olympics allow a true zone (unlike the NBA) which let opposing teams just pack everyone inside and dare us to beat them by shooting the ball (which our guys couldn't do.)

I wish the NBA would allow a true zone so as to make the NBA game more rounded.
 
Now we just need to send our guys to the Ginobli school of acting and we'll be all set for international play.

And I say that as a Spurs fan btw. 😉

Odd that Lewis got the nod over Ray Allen. Ben Wallace got robbed too. He's an incredible athlete and defender.

No Chris Bosh either. He would make a good PF/C.

How?If you've been watching Laker games lately he has been consistantly being the "playmaker" for the team.It is not his fault the players around him suck.You put anyone else in his shoes(i.e. AI,TMAC,LB) they would have about the same maybe better or worse record.The sad thing is he's in a lose-lose situation with the general consensus out there.When he's the playmaker people want him shoot more, when he shoots more he's called "selfish"

i can't stand kobe bryant, but that guy is a lock to start for the US team. as much as the NBA and olympic committee talk about team players or role players, they're still going to take most of the best available superstars in the squad.

Well Ginobli would be playing for Argentina..so Duncan would have to join him because it was him and Manu that beat the Pistons last year in the Finals, which is what I'm guessing is what tfinch was alluding to.
 
Why not invite iverson?
A person who needs 30 shots a game and shoots in the low 40 percent field goals will not give your team a good overall chance to win.
Iverson takes too many shots and he doesn't make enough of them. The rest of the world has learn how to play team basketball and we need to do the same.
