Ive started devoting my power to WCG

I like to jump around the Distributive Computing scene to different projects and programs and such and i just now came across WCG. Just a modified version of BOINC pretty much and so far i love it. The graphics are what really entertains me to be honest. i currently have all the projects checked and the Cleaner energy one shows how many GJ(Gigajoules) a normal person or particular country uses. its quite nice.

I am seriously considering revamping my whole setup just to accommodate this program and try to get the most PPD as possible. My next upgrade is going to be a quad core and a substantial amount of memory. Once i get another job since i quit the one i had over the summer, i am going to be doing some crazy stuff. So watch out!

Welcome to WCG, covert24! :thumbsup: It is certainly a group of projects worth crunching. 😀
We just finished a challenge (came second) and a race with [Hard]-OPC (camed second 😉 there too) and crunched more than 18 million points.

yea i feel like all the other projects cant really come close to some of these. Such as the fight for aids and cancer as well as the cleaner energy. It just seems as though these projects are more directed to actually helping the world as a whole and thats what i like about it.

And of course as soon as i signed up i looked for TeAm Anandtech and joined up 🙂

Just a quick question. When we get challenged, do all the members automatically start participating and just keep running projects until it is over? Or do you have to "sign-up" for the challenge?

WCG is really a great project and well run: IBM checks whether the scientists behind the project are trustworthy and controls the work sent to your computers: so you only crunch what you want and no background computing for other stuff (there were rumors concerning this on another DC project that closed some time ago) and they push the scientists to frequently report updates about the research and computations, all results will be in public domain and not for profit.

I think the customized boinc client from IBM limits the cpu usage to 60%, please check if this is true, setting it to 100% will give you a lot more ppd.

I've devoted 2 quadcores 24/7 for IBM and I mostly crunch the cancer project.

When a challenge is issued and a team chooses to participate, then all team members automatically crunch in that challenge. No extra work/sign-up/registration required.

The WCG-default is 60%, regardless of using the customized WCG-BOINC-client or a "normal" BOINC-client. Then you joins a new project, you'll normally get assigned whatever default "global preferences" this project has, and "last edited" gets set to the current time, meaning even if you're already running other BOINC-projects you'll get new "global preferences"...
