I've spent so much money on my computer....

I used to be all about value & price / performance... spending 600-700 max on a rig that lasts me a year or two.. celeron 300a@450, barton 2500@3200.. etc.. 9500np -> 9700.. unlocked 6800nu's, etc..

For some reason, I just went crazy on my last upgrade.

Here is a quick calculation on how much I've spent so far over the last two months.. prices are what I paid with shipping included. (I did alot of research.. spent alot of time in the hot deals and F/S forum)

Opteron 170 $371
DFI Ultra-D $125
2GB G.Skill ZX $190
eVGA 7800Gt $339
72 GB Raptor $120
300 GB Maxtor $130
Fortron 450PSU $52
P180 $122
Scythe Ninja $50

that's about $1,500!

I am moving to watercooling and spent even more money!
Apogee Block $40
MCP 655 Pump $85
Blackice Xtreme 2 $45

Nearly $200 for watercooling equipment..

Oh wait:

For some reason I need a new power supply.. why not get a new case?

Lian-Li V1100 Plus $200
PC Power and Cooling 520W SLI $150

About 2K for everything... i've been selling my old parts.. but i'm still crazy for spending so much money on my computer 🙁

Worth it? NO WAY... especially the extra $600 im spending on watercooling + lian li/pcp&c.. it will maybe improve my overclock 100 mhz 😛

Fun? YES! what a expensive hobby...🙁

My plan is to keep the Lian Li + PSU for atleast 2-3 years... (however i don't think that is going to happen with my impulsive buying habits).

ouch... i spent 170 on a vid card and i dont plan to upgrade for many many years.. almost killed myself for spending that much money (i have a budget system) 😛

My current box I got umm....almost 3 years ago? P4 2.8, gig of ram, only really new part is the X800XT which is going on 9 months old now.

Next project is a new case/PSU, swapping out my Corsair LLPT memory for 2GB, and I think that's about it. Sometime over the next year or two I'll finally get around to upgrading to an AMD based system (last one I had was Athlon XP 1800+) and play with CrossFire.

WOW! YOUR E-PEEN IS <---------------------------------------------------------------------------
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
----------------------------------------------------------------------------> BIG!

the upgrade im getting this Xmas is

2.4b P4 to AMD64 2800+

keeping my 6800 NU

1.5gbs ram [going from pc2100+ 1gb and 512 2700 ram to pc3200+ 1gb and my old 512 stick]

new Psu, new s754 mobo

im hoping this will give me good results since my p4 mobo is 4x agp.

You forgot to add thickness

Well, you asked for it 😉
I just built a new rig for much lower than that and it's still pretty spiffy (see Valar).
About the only upgrade I'll do is a new vid card next summer.

Thats not bad. I bought/built this for a early x-mas present to myself a few months ago:

AMD64 X2 4400+ toledo
Asus A8N-SLI Premium
4gb OCZ RAM
XFX Geforce 7800GTX "overclocked version"
6 x 300gb seagate SATA HD's
PC Power and Cooling 510 SLI
2 x BENQ DVDRW drives
Hauppauge PVR250 w/ sage
Audigy 2 sound card

2 x Dell 2405FPW's

And thats not to mention the antec case, better fans, heatsink, cabling, XP PRO, etc

I dropped over 3,400 on hardware and extras, then another 2k for the 2405's.
So prob. around $5,400 on a computer a few months ago, when I spent almost that last year this time on my last system. It's an addiction!

What kinda case did you end up getting? I was looking at one of those Stackers, I got 3 harddrives and a DVD burner, I wanna get a front card reader too.

I went with the P180. Lots of room and it holds everything great.

I'm with ya brotha! 😉 Except the thing is, I still have my 9800pro from 2.5 years ago... I plan to upgrade to 2GB of ram when I can find some low lantecy 2.8v dimms to replace my 3-4-4-8 PC4000 TwinX modules... And of course, replace the video card *hopes for an even higher end video card than the X850XT.....

LOL Absolutely not. As a matter of fact, I nominate myself for the "biggest idiot" contest for such idiotic spending.

What is up with this surge of people all of a sudden buying opterons????

A lot of the 939 pin Opterons overclock like crazy.. especially if you got a good week you can see upwards of 50% overclocks..

I basically turned my $371 processor into a $1000+ one.. My dual core is currenty overclocked to 2.9 GHz (didnt upgate my sig yet).. which is essentially dual FX-60+s... 😛

LOL... QFT. I'm waiting for the supposed release of the R580 in spring.
An OC'ed X800 GTO keeps up well enough with the big dogs.

You've already upgraded and plan to upgrade AGIAN??? Talk about a waste of money, I'm still holding on to my 9800pro, and I hope to upgrade to the R580 if it's available in AGP form which ATM doesn't look like it will happen but they do have that bridge so...

i spent 750 dollars on my computer give or take.

$50 motherboard
$180 processor
