I've Narrowed to 3 Notebooks - Just Made My Puprchase

So I've been searching for a notebook for school and also work. Basically I work with Graphics and Multimedia, Dreamweaver, Flash, and Photoshop. I do not play games. I have a wide collections of MP3s, and I travel on the plane a lot. I also watch DVDs during long flights or whatever transportation from point A to point B.

I've searched the thin and light such as the IBM T42 (too pricey for my blood). I also love the Fujitsu S Series 6231/7010/7020 but they're also pricey. I tried to avoid Dell but... seems that they still caught my eye.

I went to a Dell Kiosk today and asked about what brand of hard drive they use. The salesman said they use Western Digital. My favorite is Fujitsu but oh well... It seems to me that I am more in favor of the Dell 6000 widescreen.

I hear that if one uses American Express card to purchase computer, that AMEX will automatically add an additional one-year warranty. Has anyone receive that or... is it even true?

Here are my top 3 votes which most likely would buy within this week. I need your opinion which would you go for, and or if you have other recommendation - I am open. My budget should not exceed $1,500

New EDIT: So I damaged my credit card and went over my budget. I added WSXGA+ screen, and BlueTooth (just for the future). I also saved 34% off Dell I6000. I'm sure to get my money back after I sell web sites (yesh... i sell web site). Thanks for all your help

Ehhh.... no no no... I am going to avoid Apple computer - no offense... I disliked them since elementary. I've tried... and I've used... and still can't get the hang of using Apple computer. I'm a PC guy... all 4 of my computers are PC and ye shall have a PeeCee

Actually I think Dell uses different brands of HDDs...its random. For example, the HDD in my i9300 happens to be your favorite brand - Fujitsu. I know for sure Dell uses Fujitsu, Hitachi, and WD, and Seagate. Not sure about other brands.

I'd go for Dell, but buy them during one of their $750 off deals or something. The price for those configurations is too much IMO.

EDIT: Forgot to say that out of those 3 I'd choose the Dell 6000 heheh.

Money talks, and Dell has the best price after coupons for sure.

That said, I'd choose an HP over Dell anyway. I've never been impressed with Dell built quality, particularly the 600m. Out of the Dell's, I would go with the 6000 but IMO it would be very bulky on an airplane. I've set one up before and while it was very nice looking and an awesome bang for the buck, not very portable.

The L2000 does indeed appear to be based on the dv1000, same chassis as far as I can tell. Turion looks to be a solid performer, offering excellent performance and battery life about ~30 min or so less than Centrino. I will have concrete numbers on that for you soon 😀

Another option is the HP nx6125 business notebook. It starts at $999 and comes with integrated bluetooth, biometric security, and 3 year warranty on every configuration. It is also Turion based and offers 15" XGA or SXGA+. I will have one in my hands in about 1 month, but I hear the build quality on HP business PC's is great. nx6125 news

I believe the salesman in the Dell Kiosk doesn't know what he is talking about. Every Dell laptop of the late that I've seen uses a Fujitsu HD, including mine(5150, bad design btw..), and the 3 desktops I've purchased from them have been Maxtors.. but I don' tknow, maybe they did switch.. highly doubt the laptop uses
a Western Digital though..

I second that. WD doesn't do much OEM stuff
In fact, our test I9300 had a Fujitsu: Link

Thanks for the inputs.

Also I'm wondering what screen I should get like... the WUXGA or WS something... what's good and bad? I hear that the higher the resolution, the letters are smaller? I don't have great eyesight.

Thanks!

Thanks!

can always return the thing if you don't like it back to dell.

dell lets you return anything for any reason in the first 21 days, but you have to pay shipping, i think.

If you dont want to mess with a 750 off coupon from dell, i'd say go for the HP. Whichever one you go with, it's probably a good idea to get the minimum amount of ram (256mb?) and get your own ram from newegg.com or something and insall it yourself. You will likely save 50%+ on ram that way.

WXGA vs WSXGA+ ?

Which one is a better in your opinion? Does the WSXGA+ has a better option? Like can it have the same resolution as the WXGA?

I say go Dell 6000 it is really a wonderful thing. On the monitor thing I'd upgrade for sure, but I'm not sure about the WU rather than the WS... I have the WS and I'm impressed all to heck. Still the WU may be worth it, but I think you might find that the font is so small you need a magnifying glass to read anything. I am not a big HP fan, but only because I've found the build and the quality control to be a little low.

Considering there's no such thing as "returning" if I don't want it since I need it ASAP before going across the the pacific in 3 weeks.

My question: What I should get... the WUXGA or WSUXGA+ something... what's good and bad? People with experience would be helpful.

Thanks!

EDIT: Your opinion on this Fujitsu setup? http://shop1.outpost.com/product/4351855?site=sr:SEARCH:MAIN_RSLT_PG
A WUXGA 15.4" screen will have some tiny text on it. If your eyes aren't great, I would stick with a WSXGA+ or WXGA.

And in regards to the Fujitsu, wait for like another 8 hours and you'll get my FULL opinion 😉

About the AmEx extending the warranty, I know that MasterCard Platinum does that too (I actually used it). Quite easy to do.

Also, I am in kinda the same boat as the op. I havn't been looking too much into this - I will as soon as I finish this post - but what do you guys think on the Turion processor vs. the P-M. Which is better, in terms of gaming. I am leaning towards the PM for general purposes for couple of reasons - I think it has a longer battery life, and I like the Hi Def audio which comes part of the chipset. I welcome your opinions =).
