I've had it with my X-fi

Dam static. Just can't get rid of it. Now I get absolutly no sound from it at all. Maby it's time for an RMA? :|

I found this out also (after some trial and error). It seems that sometimes, when windows boots up and it loads my sound card drivers, that it'll lock up and restart. What could be causeing that? A hardware problem?
It seem's to have started after I installed my WaterCooling (and no, there wasn't a leak).

So, I just pluged it the good old trusty Audigy, and that works, which is good :) At least I can still use that EAX thing in my games. Does EAX(1/2/3) really do anything?

I believe OCing changes the speed of the pci bus so it may not like the increased speed.

I thought most modern mobos/chipsets kept the PCI bus speed constant. Well maybe that's only A64s cause they dont really have the standard clock multiplier and FSB.

I don't remember dealing with PCI and AGP dividers since my Tbred 1.2ghz, or maybe it was even my Celeron 366@550 days (well it was a non-issue with this overclock, but the options were there).

Also, I don't find EAX to do much. I have an Audigy too. Some games it makes the sound all static and crappy if EAX is enabled. Don't know if thats a game or driver issue or what. Plus I don't have the greatest speakers... But its suppose to add environmental effects to the sound. For example in BF2 I hear the common one being if you shoot before going into a tunnel then shoot while inside the tunnel, if EAX is enabled you'll hear the sound changed and echo due to EAX in the tunnel. But I've not heard this myself since I havent tried it. I keep EAX enabled as long as it isn't causing problems though, just for the hell of it. :)

EAX always seem to make things sound like they were in a sewer pipe. (annoying short time delay lines with hard surfaces, etc.)

Two speakers forever! You only have two ears - ask any audiophile about imaging. ;)

I kept getting static in my audigy 2 until I went into one of the driver setting menus and selected reset default, and it worked fine.
Curse you creative! I hadn't changed anything!
oh well it works fine now. :)

Yeah, I hate my X-FI also. Thinking of putting back my Audigy 2 ZS. The audio effects SW was so much better than the XFI. Digital delay sucks compared to the echo-two-tap on the Audigy 2 ZS.

I went from an audigy2 to the x-fi fatal1ty and I'd never go back. EAX is fantastic in games with a 5.1 speaker system and is so much better than with the audigy2.

Wait, shouldn't the different between an Audigy 2 to an X-fi not be noticable?

No its definitely noticeable. BF2 has far g reater sound. Not just on a single plane but sound above, below, it's great IMO
