I've had it. I'm not building anyone's computer anymore.

Rant:

Computers that don't function the way I want them to REALLY piss me off. I just made a top of the line hyper threading system for a friend. $1200. (well maybe not TOP of the line, but its pretty darn good)

I put the ic7, the twinx ram and the 2.4ghz cpu together and I get heat problems.

I tried to install xp FOUR times. The time I got it working was when I declocked to 1.6ghz and took out a stick of the ram.

Another computer I tried to build kept crashing on me while installing XP. Spent 3 days straight on that one.

Everytime I build a computer for a friend it just messes up.

However, when I do it for myself it never causes me so much trouble. I HATE putting computers together when they don't work.

Yep, I've really had everything checked.

Put on AS3 properly, fitted the heatsink and made sure there is contact on the chip. I really have no idea.

Hopefully we'll figure it out at a LAN party tomorrow. Should be around 15 other people to figure it out.

is the case open or closed?
i build one for a friend of mine and realised, that it had big thermal issues when the case was closed. with an open case it worked flawlessly. after that i got him some 120mm-casefans and no problems since then with closed case.

I tried it with case both opened and closed. In a chieftec case with 3 fans exhausting air. But that still shouldn't matter, the retail heatsink should be able to accomodate the stock speed.

I built my first computer about 8 months ago. I just ordered a cpu/mobo combo and let someone else figure out that part.

wasn't AMD the ones with heat problems? :D I will never ever get an el cheapo case if someone asks me to build a computer. Bad cases are the worst!

ndee, I always use el-cheepo cases, they never cause any problems as long as the
PSU is decent.
The money is better spent on the best cooler and generally good quality components.
Of course it is also a good idea to be VERY careful when putting the things together,
even if it is the 100 computer you build.

I had a crappy in-win tower with the PAL8045 cooler. Isn't that like one of THE best coolers outthere? Computer crashed when the case was closed. The problem is, if you don't get any airflow(the case had no fans), you're out of luck and either need a case fan(which I tried but didn't work). Only buying quality stuff, you always get what you pay for(most of the cases(no pun intended ;)))

I've built about, hmmm... lets see... 4 complete computers from the ground up in the past 6 months... didn't have a single problem with any of them until I got em set up and was overclocking... but problems are expected when you overclock.

hyper threading starts at the 3.06 part,I believe.Any os loaded while the cpu is o/ced is asking for trouble.

Hyper Threading is also in the new FSB800 chips IIRC.

Yup... all of them... from the 2.4 to the 3.0

guess you'll have to build more pcs for yourself then sell it to your friends! :D

it's impossible to build a computer for less than you can buy it from dell, when they have one of their killer deals.
plus, have you heard a new dell lately? you can't..because they are totally silent! they use a ducted fan over the cpu, and you can't tell when their are
on because their so quiet.

the only reason to build your own machine is because you want the "experience"
and that is a perfectly legitimate reason to build one..i built one with my son, and it
was a great learning experience (we also had stability problems...eventually traced down to a
stick of RAM). however, by the time all the components arrived, and we put the thing together, i could have
bought the equivalent machine from dell for less.
