So Illinois is implementing this new open road tolling system and it pretty much forces you to buy IPass, since paying tolls with cash costs twice as much. So I went to Road Ranger today to buy one, and I was told that they didn't have them at that Road Ranger. I had to go to another one a few miles away, and closer to the highway. Ok, I thought. I took the trip to the other Road Ranger, and they told me $50 CASH. WTF! I didn't have that much cash on me, so I asked if they took credit card, or debit card. They took neither. I asked if they could give me cash back if I bought something. They said no. I had no choice but to leave.

What a waste of gas and time. Why the fvck would Illinois put together this system that pretty much forces you to buy an IPass and then make you jump through hoops to buy one by limiting the number of places that sell it, and also limiting the number of ways you can pay of it.

We have EZ-Pass in the NYC area, and I couldn't live without it. The initial cost was ~25 I think, but you could order it online.

I think in the long run, you will like it much more and save a few cents here and there, so just bite the bullet and up the $50.

That sh1t is evil. Here in England they use RFID cards to track you on the subway, and if you don't have one you pay twice the price.

It makes sense to use open tollways, keeps traffic moving, should be fewer accidents, less pollution of vehicles sitting idle, overall a good idea.

Does no one see the problem with the state using your tax money to build toll roads that they then hire foreign companies to run so they can both profit off of your need to get to work?

except for the @sshats who ride the toll tag lane all the way to the tollboth and then cut in line for people who are paying cash/coins...:disgust::|

this happens on the Dallas Toll Plazas on the Dallas North Tollway at rush hour....(or it did two years ago when I took the tollway daily to get to work)...can't imagine this gettin any better...

the interstates in IL are in a horrible shape too...makes you wonder WHERE that money actually goes.

Btw. i remember buying an ipass back in IL in any grocery store like jewel etc...and/or of course you can buy it online.

Still...BS.....most expensive toll system in the country and the WORST streets.
