I've got those quad Xeon 700 servers back ;-)

Hi guys,

For the next couple o' days I can use two Quad Xeon 700 servers for TA Cube 😀

I thought I'd never see them again, but to my great surprise I have them standing here for the time being. I can't keep them 🙁 , but maybe I can use them for a week while I'm installing software on them and testing them.

This should really do something to my daily output hehe 😎

How many WUs do one quad 700 system put out a day? i'm pretty interested in the quad xeon arena.. I'm leaning toward building a quad 400mhz due to $$$, but i might talk myself into saving a bit and going with 700s. thanks!

srvblues00,
I've got a dual PIII 700mhz Xeon with 2M cache, and each CPU does a SETI WU in ~5.8 hours. or about 8 or 9 WUs a day combined. 🙂

If the cache on those quads is 1M or more, I would expect similar times from at least 3 of the instances. 🙂

BurntKooshie:
I'm looking at the PII 400MHz Xeon with 1mb cache.

That's pretty sweet, ray! hopefully sometime this summer I can get another system up and crunching. 🙂

you should consider trading those Xeons to a SETI member, the keyrate of the equivalent powered Athlons would benifit both SETI and RC5 teams

srvblues00 - unfortunetly, those are offdie chips....but they can be had fairly cheap compared to their big brothers 😀

The Xeons have 1Mb cache each. so...THEY ROCK!! 😀

But, sorry guys, no SETI for me. I'm the only one running a dnet client here and my project happens to be RC5. And I (TA Cube) needs those lovely little machines to keep up the team race with The Federation. Borg are known to conquer all, remember? 😉

Gaijin: You're missing the idea of the trade. 😉 What they're saying is for you to trade your Xeons (which do SETI@Home better) with someone on the SETI team for equal CPU power in the form of an Athlon (which do rc5 better). You'd run the SETI client under the ID of the person you trade with. The person you trade with would run the rc5 client under your rc5 ID (TA Cube). That way both the rc5 team and SETI team benefit. There's a thread somewhere around here about trading Xeons & Athlons between the teams to optimize CPU power. 🙂

Ach so 😀 Hmmm...well...okay, sure. If my Xeons run SETI better then rc5 it's bogus not to use them for the job they're best at, namely SETI.

I've been out of SETI a couple of months...almost1 year now. Can I use some sort of pproxy to get SETI WU's on one client that has access to the internet and distribute those WU's to those Xeon servers?

Yep, use SETIQ. Somebody can supply you with a link. 🙂

If these are Windows machines, I would suggest using SETI Driver, and setting the number of processes to four. Then use the IP# of the SETIQ machine, along with the SETIQ port, as the proxy server for SETI Driver.

Sukhoi,

servers run Terminal Server with Metaframe. I just downed the cmdline SETI programme, but I understand from your mail that I need SETIQ.

I'll try to find it unless anyone else has a link.

I've got SetiQ running (hope I configured it correctly, but thatwill come as time goed by).
What e-mail address should I use for you guys?

And...can you give me 16Mkey/s of RC5 power back?

Gaijin: Someone (or several?) on the SETI team needs to contact you for the trade. Check out that other thread - just search for "trade" in the DC forum. There's a bunch of CPU swapping going on for exactly this reason.

Thanks for helping both teams! 🙂

Rob

Sukhoi,

Link to trade thread

Stuff is up and running. Only need an e-mail address from you guys, and you need to crunch for me. But how is this gonna work since i normally flush through my internet proxyserver towards an ISP?
I want those credits on my nickname, and since my clients use rc5@tacube.com, the Borg get the units, but on the By Host listing Gaijin will get no credit, right?

That's probably correct about your host name not getting any credit. However, if the people that end up running RC5 for you are on unique hosts, I think Russ can merge them into your host account. Am I right?

Cool.

Well dudes. We're running this topic on three threads now, all about those quad servers of mine. Maybe better to continue in this one?

The only thing I need is info from seti@TA (you guys) to get those Intels cracking E.T. @rsh.

Actually, it would probably be best to keep it going on the processor trade thread so it gets the most bumps and potential offers.

good lord gaijin! We still need to up our keyrate for the day... its still rather low... cmon BORG... lets get it in gear...

What's up? 😕 I just upped almost 13000 WU's to the pproxy. Not good enough?
Don't forget I've got those server up and cracking since yesterday about 3pm.

It's the rest of my herd that's falling behind now. Only my Athlon is keeping up a bit with barely 3Mkey/s.

Man..If only I good keep them Quads for a month or so.🙁
