I've got this cyst...

Just noticed it this afternoon, getting bigger. It's right on the front my neck to the side, pressing up against my artery/glands. Damn does it hurt. I'm starting to get a little loopy/nauseous.

I've been icing it for the last few hours. If it doesn't go down in a day or two (or gets bigger) I'll go to the doctor.

Other than ice, any suggestions? (No, I won't amputate my head)

I'm sorry, but you definitely have to go to a physician and have that thing treated. I don't think they go away on their own, and I was told that cysts on the throat or head can be dangerous.

Edit: My bad, I was thinking about a BOIL. It's the boils I asked about.

I'm pretty sure it's a cyst. I have a keloid scar on my neck and it's under that. I've gotten cysts before, they usually go away in a few days.

How would ibuprofen help a cyst?

Man I just went through that.

I had a cyst on the back of my neck for months, didn't really hurt or cause a problem, then a few weeks ago it started getting bigger and it hurt like hell.

I ended up going to a "free Health" clinic here in town and it cost me around $50. It had somehow gotten infected, so they lanced it and gave me antibiotics and dressed it. I did have to go back 3 times to get it checked out and have the dressings changed.

See if there is a free health clinic in your area! They usually charge on a sliding scale.

Corticosteroids. 🙂 Go to the damn doctor.
Take acetaminophen or ibuprofen for the pain.
I know, about the steroids, but the dermatologist wouldn't inject the keloid on that spot because it was too close to an artery.

I have some perscription (500mg) Naproxen. Would that work?

Might ask for a topical corticosteroid. Something like Fluocinonide cream.
Yea, Naproxen works just fine for pain.

^^^^^^^^

The down side of being ME I suppose.

People sometimes don't read my posts, figuring I'm just being a jackass as usual.

You very well might have the same thing I did. Sure sounds like it!

Not true. Inflamed cysts can hurt like a bitch.

Yes but cyst don't just come out of nowhere, and usually are a lump for some time before they start to hurt, boils come up fast and hurt from the start

It just so happens that the dermatologist gave me a tube of Fluocinonide and I've been using it on the keloid for the past 6mos. Haven't noticed a difference tho.

So I guess it's safe to use it on the Keloid with the cyst under it. I didn't realize it was a steroid.

Who said you guys aren't as goood as doctors?😉

It's quite possible I've had that cyst for some time because it's under the scar.

It's a corticosteroid, anti-inflammatory, anti-pruritic, and a vasoconstricter. It doesn't work well with old cysts, they usually only prescribe it for younger cysts.

<---Not a doctor, yet, give me 4 1/2 years.

HEAT! The only way to make it go away is heat, that's what I've read and my sister had one really bad one time and she put moist hot packs on it. That makes it go away faster. Also, if you're feeling sick from it, you NEED TO GO TO THE DOCTOR. Sounds like you're getting blood poisoning, that ain't cool.

I hate cysts.

I had one in my eyelid (yes it had to be cut out after they numbed my eyelid by running a neegle thru most of it). It hurt like a b!tch.

The second one I had was on top of my head and it did start hurting when it got bigger. It had to be cut out as well. They showed that one to me afterwards and it looked nasty.

Don't worry, I'll go. It's too new, I get them like this, it's just in a bad spot and is pressing down on my artery/glands. The dermatologist said I should ice them when they come up quick like this. My father used to get them too and needed surgery.

Yeah, the keloid is only a year or so old, but in the 8mos or so I've been using the cream it hasn't worked at all. Bummer. Doctor said since he didn't want to inject it, the only thing for me to do was cosmetic surgery, and I can't afford that.
