I've got some static...

I went to Best Buy a couple weeks ago and bought some Klipsch Promedia 2.1 speaks for my new computer. Originally, I had some problems getting them to even work, but eventually I worked through that. Right off the bat I thought they sounded GREAT, but once in awhile I got the feeling that there was the teensiest bit of static far away, but I couldn't put my finger on it.

So they worked that way for a couple of weeks, no real problems other than the phantom static that I could only half hear anyways. Tonight things got worse. I put in a cd to make sure I wasn't just going crazy and sure enough the static was much more pronounced. Even weirder is that the only speaker that I can notice the static in is the right one. I checked and rechecked my speaks' connections to try to get better contact but nothing really helped too much. Occasionally the sound would improve, but would then slowly deteriorate again...

Does this simply sound like a problem with the speakers themselves (the right one), or is there anything I can do to change this. I don't have a sound card, just the onboard sound from my Asus A7N8X-E Deluxe. I tried downloading a sound driver from Asus but I have no clue on how to install it (help in that dept. would be great too!!) Suggestions are appreciated! Thanks

i am actually having a similar problem w/ my 2.1 creative i-triuge 3300's. i have noticed some sort of static and sometimes popping noises from the left speaker. almost like i blew it out but i find that hard to believe. its the same w/ both my onboard Asus a7v9x-x audio and audigy 2 audio. i am almost sure the problem is with the speakers (because the problem persisted on both sound outputs) and plan on calling up creative tech support to see if maybe i can get a new set of speakers out of them. knowing my experiences w/ creative tech support while dealing w/ problems w/ my audigy 2 card, though, i dont have very high hopes. creative tech support = :|

Every time I have heard static like in a speaker I have usually had to replace the speakers. If you had another system (or a buddy's system) you could hook them up and see if the problem still exists. That would at least give you some ammunition when you return the speakers for a good set. Providing that the problem is the speakers themselves.

I found that my Belkin SOHO series KVM cases static. It was driving me nuts but it's fine if I plug directly into the back or the front port of the case. Be sure to remove anything in-line. Some say that adjusting the PCI device's "timing" (or was it priority) will cause less bottlenecking and there'll be less static. That didn't help my situation but it's something to try.
