Specifically I've seen people post about the Lakers and Mariners being bandwagon teams, in their own towns! What is up with that? What's wrong with showing your hometeam some support when they're doing really well? I know, I know, in their poorer times these teams could barely draw half of a full house. Are the people who show up to games --when their team is doing very poorly-- true fans? Perhaps. Are the people who only come to games when their hometeam is doing really well, are they "bandwagoners" ? No! It's their hometeam and they are allowed to show their support when they want! I for one, would rarely pay money to root for a crappy team. To me, it almost seems like a waste. And if I had to decide between watching a crappy Mariners team or watch Brady Bunch reruns, I'd probably decide on fantasizing about Marsha.

My point...It's one thing if you DO NOT live in one of these cities and all of a sudden decide Kobe Bryant is GOD and the lakers suddenly become your favorite team for the remainder of the playoffs. BUT, if you live in one of these cities, ofcourse you want your team to perform well ALWAYS. But in reality if they suck you're more than allowed to spend your time doing other things. And when they start to perform well, hometowners can enjoy it, brag about it b/c it might not happen very often.

What I can't stand is the people who live in the city and pretend to be lifelong fans when the team is winning, but don't even care when they are losing. I've watched and cheered for the Sixers since they sucked (after they lost barkley) and I still do. People who are all the sudden scream Sixers fan around here I hate, they are bandwagon jumpers, just like the sudden emergance of hundreds of laker fans who could've cared less 5+ years ago.

Doesn't matter if you live in the city, a real fan cheers when no one else is.

well take a que from the chicago cubs who have consistently sold out there home games for the last 20 years, not bad considering there record.

The Mariners suck. They suck now, they sucked yesterday, and they will suck tomorrow. I wouldn't go to a game if they gave away dugout tickets for free.

I wish they would finally fulfill their frequent threat and leave town, and get the hell out of my wallet.

The problem is, like Siva said, standing up when the team is winning and declaring yourself a lifelong fan of the team. That is what you call being a bandwagon or fairweather fan. When I, however, declare myself a lifelong Pirates fan......

There is nothing wrong with supporting your team only when they are winning. That is part of the incentive to becoming a winning team. Just don't try and declare yourself a lifelong fan. Admit that you are a bandwagoner/fairweather fan and be done with it.

Damn Russ, let us really know how you feel 'bout the mariners. ;) j/k.

I guess it'll be interesting to see how many of the new fans stick around when things start to go downhill. I'm sure they'll do fine this year, and probably next year. But, eventually, every franchise is gonna go through a downturn.

btw, I definitely consider myself a long-time mariners fan, and not a bandwagoner. I was a little young when they first got to Seattle (must've been 3-4 years old), but one of my coolest memories as a kid is walking on the kingdome field for some cub scouts thing. :)

lol..yeah...clippers are a fun bunch to watch..they are are younger than me which is funny. it's cool to watch a team with no veterans cause they make great and bad plays all the time.

I think all the people who root for the 76er's as the underdogs are bandwagoners...

i'm a New Orleans Saints fan personally... i think it safe to say that i'll be safe for a long time from being accused of being a bandwagon jumper ;)
