When you get Chinese food, there's always leftovers.

Like Hunan Beef, Chicken or Shrimp (or the combo for the undecided).

Here's what I just did with the cold, soggy leftovers to "liven" them up:

Take the leftovers and dump them in a preheated shallow pan coated with sesame oil.

Heat food to "edible" temperature. Stir VERY often. Sort of like "Stir Fry". Ahh! You get it.

Take your favorite Ceyenne pepper sauce and apply vigorously to top of leftovers. Not red pepper. Not Tobasco, but CEYENNE. This is the pepper that the seed come from that Chinese food typically has when you ask for your dish "extra spicy". I use Schlotzsky's that I buy at their "Deli".

Remove from heat IMMEDIATELY upon adding sauce. Stir gently and serve.

OH MY GOODNESS! I had no idea how good that would turn out. YUM!

It wouldn't appeal to me because I'm not too keen on spicey stuff. My husband would love it though :p

Dude! No way. YOU would have left overs if you ate at the Bamboo Express on Hillsborough just west of Hanley in Town n' Country Tampa.

The lunch special is $5.99 and you get the entree, fried (not white) rice, an egg roll or soup (I get the hot and sour) and a drink. It's A LOT of food.

The dinner consists of TWICE AS MUCH food, same amount of rice and a drink for $10. There WILL be left overs. :p

I'm going to have to have more Chinese leftovers more often. Beats the pants off of leftover pizza.

BTW: yakko, if you're out there.... Westshore Pizza is the best pizza but is suck leftover. Papa John's ownz leet haxors when cold! HANDS DOWN! :p

I'm gonna have to try that place, jonnyGURU.

I've been getting French Vietnamese at Indochine on Gandy (near MacDill)... Heaven!

My favorite pizza on the South Side is Cesare's. Mmmmmm!

Man, I'm getting hungry but I have a rule about not eating late at night.... :(

i've never had good leftover pizza.... but then, i rarely have leftover pizza...

i like leftover fried chicken ;-) i wrap it in Al foil, and pop it in the toaster oven at a low temp, like 225 F, and leave it there for like half an hour... the meat gets really tender... 'cause it's been effectively steamed...

i don't get leftover chinese food... =P i eat everything, i should get my stomach stapled, i eat too much at any sitting. BUT I RARELY GET FULL... which means i should drink more water.

Isla: The best Chinese in town has to be Mei Wah on Dale Mabry highway. Very good egg rolls and I don't even like egg rolls! ;) Bamboo Express is just very large quantities very cheap, and it's pretty good. Actually, I need to give them more credit than that. They have the best soups PERIOD. I always get the hot and sour and my wife and a co-worker say the wonton is the best they've ever had.

My sister in law and her husband hame down from PA and we went out to eat almost every night. I made sure they were never disappointed and never went to a chain store (at least not a non-Tampa based chain).

We went to Westshore Pizza, Bamboo Express, Hops, Pipo's, AJ Catfish... I tried to get them into Mr. Dunderbaks (the franchise one in U Square, not the chain store in Citrus Park), but no one was "hungry enough". :(

ElFenix: Oh yes. I NEVER do leftover rice. Blech!

Arrggghh! Sacrilege! ;)

You haven't tasted good Chinese food (for North America) until you've tried the stuff in Toronto or Vancouver, or maybe San Francisco or something. Next time you're in one of these cities get a friend in the know to take you to one of these restaurants. You don't know what you're missing until you've tried it.

Mmmmmm.... Ginger and green onion lobster, "hollow heart" vegetable, geoduck, and rice, with Wuliangye and Tsingtao beer to wash it down.

Now I'm hungry...

sesame oil is awesome, I like how it's easy to get it very, very hot.

lol, I was thinking the same thing. Mao probably doesn't even deserve "Chinese Hell". He should have to work in a chinese sweat shop for the rest of eternity.
