I've decided to make my system a little more user friendly (eg portable & quiet)...

Away goes the SuperMicro SC750, away goes the 14 fans. I'm thinking of doing the following:

Getting the following:

- Good dual Slot 1 BX (or i815) motherboard
- Decent mid tower case
- Another P3 700e cb0 FC-PGA guaranteed to 933 @ default voltage, plus another IWILL Slocket II & Agilent ArctiCooler for it
- Another 128 MB Mosel Vitalic REV2 DIMM
- 2 x IBM 75GXP hard drives
- ATA/100 RAID card
- Windows 2000

Selling the following:

- SC-750A, with whatever P/S the mid tower case came with
- ABIT BF6
- Voodoo2 SLI W/Tennmax Stealth coolers
- 2 x Western Digital 10.2 GB 7200 RPM HDs
- Alpha PEP66/Delta 38 combo
- 2 x FanBus
- 2 x 80mm fans
- 2 x removable hard drive bays

That would result in this system:

2 x Pentium III @ 966 MHz
256 MB CAS2 RAM
GeForce 2 GTS @ 220/400
20.4 GB ATA/100 RAID0 array
Kenwood 72X CD-ROM
SAF 4432 CDRW
Iomega ZIP ATAPI
Intel Pro/100+ Management NIC
SB Live!

Would that be a pretty decent move? I'm tired of this howling monster that I've made. I want something that will be quiet, easily portable, & just happen to crack RC5 at double what I can do now.

😀

Any thoughts would be appreciated, 'cause I'm rather excited about this idea. It'd be a pretty nice LAN box, & it'd crack RC5 at ~5.2 Mkeys/sec. And it'd actually be quiet enough I could let it run all the time instead of having to shut it off so I can sleep.

Viper GTS

Does the i815 support dual processors? What about a Via dual processor board? Anand gave a positive review of one, if I remember correctly.

you'd probably have to get a via dual board. the bx's dual werent really known for great overclocking. Might as well get the msi 694d pro and ditch your slotkets.

heh yea, computers aren't impressive unless they are almost silent😛 2 or maybe 3 low rpm fans are all you need if your case is good. I use 80mm fans i got from frys that have a heat sensor on them. Turns out the settings are kind of bogus but it works out.. 3k rpm all the time is nice and quite so no complaints🙂
