I've consumed ~1000 calories in the last 4 days

I haven't felt the least bit hungry for four days. I don't really know why but it's worrisome. I feel like eating will make me want to puke so I have managed to force down ~1000 calories. I can't explain it, I've been feeling pretty depressed for the last few days which could explain it I guess. Any ideas? I normally keep a diet of 1700 - 1900 calories per day.

Are you being serious? Because this is a genuine problem for me. I know it's a lot to ask but it would be nice to keep jokes to a minimum.

Smoke some green. It cures all of those symptoms.
Yes, even if it doesn't cure anything nothing will get worse. Except for maybe paranoia but I think that's an overblown side effect.

Sounds like anxiety, which goes hand in hand with the depression.
Check your heart rate, i bet it's at least 120bpm
your body is running on the sympathetic nervous system, or the fight or flight mode. In this mode, your digestion shuts off to give your body more energy to focus on whatever it needs to overcome.

i had this same problem, and the doctor referred me to a counselour 🙁

is there anything you're worried about?

Yeah I should have mentioned I have been able to feel my heart beating very fast for several days also. I have serious money problems, girl problems and living arrangement problems and also exams coming up in a couple of weeks.

Depressed about what?

Is it important? I'm not trying to be evasive but it's personal.

If it's severe enough it can cause what you're describing. I suggest trying to deal with that first.

it does until you get dependent on it.. then your appetite will be a million times worse, with anxiety up through the roof.

You are as likely to get addicted to herb as you are to cookies.

Im a 21 year old cancer patient with less than 6 months to live, so ive been in the no-appetite/depression stage many many times.

The drinkable-meal type things are a great help (Boost, Ensure, and similar products) to get enough calories for the day. The best thing to do is mix it with a little ice cream for the added fat and calorie content and blend it into a milkshake. You can drink this slowly over a few hours and its at least 600 calories, plus most of what you need for a non-active lifestyle day.

Other tips are to snack on small things throughout the day, drink soda for the calories/blood sugar so you have enough energy for the basic functions of life. Snacking on small things throughout the day doesnt always work for me. Ill try to force myself to eat, ill get 1-2 bites in before looking at the food makes me feel nauseous. Personally, ive done well with mostly fluids. You dont NEED 2000 calories a day if you are relatively inactive, you can last several weeks without any major ill effects with much much less. About depression, its a personal thing, only you can deal with it. Just try to remember, other people have had it worse than you AND recovered from it. There is always at least SOME hope.

Depression can easily cause a loss of appetite. When I broke up with my girlfriend of five years, I ate maybe 1500 calories in a week. I just wasn't hungry (or thirsty). As soon as I got through the immediate depression stage (which didn't actually last very long), I found my appetite returned. It did cause me to pen the phrase "breaking up is a great weight loss plan."

If the root cause of your loss of appetite stems from depression, you need to address that. Figure out why you're depressed and what can help you work through it. Psychological stuff can have a detrimental effect on your physical body, strange as it seems.
