people who sue because they spill coffee on themselves.....they can go DIAF

if you actually read up on that case, she had a valid claim.

In the famous McDonald's case, a 79-year-old woman was served 180°F to 190°F coffee (82°C to 89°C) in a thin cup in a drive-thru. She put the cup between her legs to stabilize it -- trying to be careful -- and removed the lid to add cream and sugar. The coffee sloshed out upon removing the lid, quickly giving her third-degree burns across her groin, inner thighs, and buttocks. She spent eight days in a hospital, had to go through skin grafts, and was disabled for more than two years -- all for a 49-cent cup of coffee in a flimsy cup that McDonald's served way, way too hot for a drive-in window.

She sounds like a dumbass to me.

no need for coffee to be hot enough to cause 3rd degree burns that need skin grafts. you cant even drink it when its thats hot.

McDonalds coffee is popular for that very reason. It's popular because it is so hot.

hot coffee is one thing. coffee thats hot enough to put someone in the hospital is absurd.

a lesson learned. dont keep hot coffee between your legs

im sure your tune would be quite different if it were you getting skin grafted onto your ass.

I drink my coffee at home, and not while operating a motor vehicle, thus a burnt coffee ass will never occur.

FWIW, the SCAA defines a brewing temperature of 197F-204F as being optimal for most of the water-coffee contact time, and most anyone who knows coffee will agree; however, if the in-cup temperature of the coffee was 190F then it was definitely too hot; a 190F in-cup temperature would indicate an in-carafe temperature of considerably more, and also a burnt cup of coffee.

should that happen, it would be due to your own actions, and no one elses. thats not the case here.

read the link posted above. im sure not every complaint/settled case mcdonalds handled was from someone putting the coffee between their legs in their car. im also sure youve never made a stupid decision in your life.

i agree that putting the coffee between her legs was dumb, but its also stupid to serve it hot enough to hospitalize someone. especially when mcdonalds was well aware of the dangers and consequences in our sue happy culture. again, read the link.

If it was really too hot, they wouldn't sell a billion cups a year. People that buy coffee typically know it's hot. If I jump off a building and break my arm, I don't sue the owner of the building. I stop jumping off of buildings.

No, she's just a dumbass. The coffee sells because it is that hot. People like it that hot.

Yes, I have done stupid things, but I realize I was a dumbass and I don't sue over it.

Read my post over and over again.

you know when you jump off a building you WILL get hurt. of course people expect coffee to be hot, and possibly even burn when spilled, but not 8 days in the hospital and mutliple skin grafts hot. read the article i posted and take note of the slight variations in temperature and potential burns.

have you ever spilled coffee purchased from a business on you before? did you suffer the same injuries that woman did?

did you read the link i posted? not that i expect it to change your opinion, just curious.

no need to read your post again. we just have different opinions on mcdonalds responsibilty in this case. im one of the biggest advocates of personal responsibility, but how someone can say that mcdonalds shoulders no blame is beyond me.

I also know that if pour coffee on my crotch my gf would be absolutely pissed at me. I browsed through the link. Apparently McDs conformed to standards, that customers like hot coffee, and this woman was a dumbass.
